Shimano TLD20, Drag Issues?

Until now, my fishing has been pretty much limited to inshore. However, my friend just got himself a 23’ Mako CC. So, I started trying to get geared up for some offshore options. I already had a couple jigging rods. My friend and I each picked up our first TLD20 setups. When I try to preset the drag, it seems like the reel doesn’t always want to go back into a free-spooling position when I slide the lever all the way back. Also, after adjusting the drag in the free-spooling position… when I slide the lever to the strike position to check the drag, it seems to be stuck in free-spool. Then it takes quite a few turns on the drag preset knob to start engaging the drag to a useable level. Is there anything I’m missing here? Has anyone encountered similar issues? Also, as I’m new to the offshore game any private messages with advice or tips concerning new fishing options from the jetties outward would be appreciated.

I had the same problem. I called shimano and told them about it. They told me to mail it back and they fixed it. They only thing I had to pay for was the mailing.

Thanks, I didn’t know if there might be a quick fix. As the reel was brand new, I was able to just exchange it where I bought it.
