I fished with my Team mates Derek Nobles and Mike Saunders
onboard the 23’ Sea Fox (Shingled Out)in the Tailwalker
Tournament this past weekend and it was rewarding. This was
my first Kingfish Tournament since I started fishing 4yrs ago.
I really wasn’t expecting to place first in this tournament, it
came as a surprise for sure. We left out of Georgetown Friday around 0545 and headed down the ICW towards Charleston and left out of Capers Inlet. Caught bait in the inlet and fishing most of the day in about 80-100ft of water and caught only 2 kings and 6 dolphin, but we did manage to save a sea turtle that was hung up in a net which it was pretty cool. On Saturday we left out of Georgetown like everyone else and caught bait of north inlet. Soon as we had enough bait we headed to our spot about 10 miles offshore and fished that spot all day and released 24 kingfish, kept 1 dolphin and 1 cobia. We headed in just a little around 2:30 and tried one more spot, It was there we hooked up on the winning 38.14# king. I new right when we got the fish in the boat that it was the winning fish. We headed for the hill soon after and weighed in the winning fish. I would just like to say congragulations to my other team mates and thank Derek Nobles for allowing me to fish with the team this year. We will be fishing the rest of division 3 tourneys this year and hopefully go to nationals.
