I am gonna go out soon and trying the shipping channel and some nearshore reefs and live bottom. was wondering if jigging up bait around the bouys was the best way to get some king fishes. my try bumping the bottom around too, anyone know of anything good coming off the bottom within ten miles of the rocks??? Thanks.

Look for the menhaden around the Mt. PLeasent side around crab bank. Those are one of the best baits right now.If you need someone to go with you who will help out gas let me know.
Well since i am only a salesman and don’t know a lot about anything i will just put my two cents in. catch manhadden by fort sumter early in the morning run out past the first bouy. drop how ever amount of lines you like to troll with maybe put skirt on two of them but leave some bare. I like to do half and half with different colors. Then take a plastic bucket with small holes and throw menhadden in it and crush them leaving a chum slick. troll straight up the shipping channel and when you get to the C bouy circle it a few times and i guarantee you will catch a king there. You could also anchor over the mine field and balloon fish doing the same thing with a slick of chum. if you can’t catch a king doing that then they are either not biting or you just are not in the right place.

sunrise is when i have the best luck. but later on in the summer they become more scarce. You will not miss them because they will be popping everywhere.

We are headed down Sat and that will probably be what we concentrate on, I will have brother in law with me and I would like to see him and his 2 sons(12/9) get to catch some kings.
Not much on eating them either except for the poor mans lobster recipe

Coming down to MP next week for a few days. Where is the best ramp to access the shipping channel? How far out the channel are you guys expecting to find spanish and then kings?
there are a bunch of ramps all through charleston. the best in my opinion is wappoo cut. and head straight out dropping lines at the first bouy past the jetties
