I just picked up some sinking line from Barton and Burwell in Mt. P yesterday. Now I need to get that extra spool…
Clark: Oh, I was just smelling - smiling. I was just blouse - browsing. I, uh, heh heh. Well, I guess it just wouldn’t… Oh hee hee, it wouldn’t be the Christmas shopping season if the stores were any less hooter than they - HOTTER than they are. Whew. It is warm in here, isn’t it?
Mary: You have your coat on.
Clark: Yes, oh do I? Yeah, it is a bit nipply out. I mean nippy. What am I saying, nipple?
I love them. I am currently using the clear Monic intermediate line that sinks well up to about 7 feet, more w/ a weighted fly. Since its clear I can use a short 5 ft leader, which you should do w/ sinking line anyway. Amnesia is a good -little memory- shooting line that will shoot a mile. It can tangle rather easily but a decent basket will fix that. The only problem is the sinking line tangled in the oysters, but w/ trout it prob wont happen since its deeper and the fly will be moving.
I have a couple of different sink tips that I attach to my floating line w/ loop to loop connectors. I can change w/o carrying a spare spool:smiley:
It doesn’t cast as well as a clear mono shooting head sinking line, but it’s pretty close.
So much water, So little time
I used to use a sink tip and it got the job done. Now I use a SA wet tip clear that has a sink rate of 1.80 to 2.00 IPS and it is sweet.
I use a clear sink tip 98% of the time.
I just use really old floating line and the tips sink pretty good How long of a leader do you use for trout? I have been throwing about a 7-9 foot leader, any longer and I can’t sem to get the fly out where I want…

I use a class VII 10’ sink tip with a sink rate of 5-7" per second and a four foot leader with a lead eyed clouser. It will get you down about ten to fifteen feet pretty quick if the tides not to strong but is a little tricky to cast. I have been finding the trout deeper since the water cooled.
So if I fish on 3 feet of water I’ll be good Thanks for the info! I’ll try deeper for them this weekend… BTW Monday am going to be hitting Redfishville to continue my yak fishing story… anyone is welcome to join in…

I just got a sink tip that sinks at a rate of 6ips (Teeny TS-250). It has a 30 foot level head so if I want the head shorter I can just cut it off. I have a 7wt (pretty fast) rod that I’ll be using it on so I can keep my 8wt rigged with floating line (or vise versa). It will be nice to have 2 different rods rigged to target different areas.
Thanks for the input.
