Has anyone had any luck fishing the hatchery area? Namely along the rock wall (dam) that runs NW from the lot.
I was walking my dog along there and for whatever reason there were a good amount of striped bass (good size too) no more than 10ft off shore from the rocks. They were so plentiful that I noticed them because the sun kept catching them as they turned. Do they bed in that area?
What do you guys throw for stripers? Is it possible to imitate anything they hit from the shore?
Any advice would be much appreciated. If I’m hiking those rocks I’d like to at least get something to chase so I can see those lugs up close.
Cooper - I know I cannot keep stripers at this time of year. Am I not allowed to catch and release? I’m fishing where I’m fishing either way, I don’t mean to step on anyone’s toes though. Moved here a month ago, familiar with PA laws.
Happy - Thanks for the heads up. So they like light minnow imitations? Any luck on spoons?
Oops officer these dang stripers keep eating my bass lures. Last time I checked I live in America hope of the free. Catch all you want sir just don’t gry caught with them.
I asked a warden doing a survey at a landing about what if you start catching them fishing for other species. He said you are supposed to move to another area if you start catching them .
That’s the same thing they told me (“you’re supposed to move”), when I asked about catching and floating “throwback stripers” while perch fishing in deep water on Murray. Problem is, a lot of times you find them schooled up deep together. How many throwbacks am I supposed to catch before I’m supposed to move? One, five, ten or more?
I’m referring to deep winter fishing, not the five and done rule.
The spirit of the law is clear; to reduce the high release mortality of stripers during summer. So if you are asking how to catch stripers during the CLOSED season and you use that information to target stripers during the CLOSED season (not that you would do that), you are obviously violating the law. Unfortunately, the enforcement of that law can be a grey area, difficult for anglers and warden?s.
With the “5 and done” Summer rule on Murray if you throwback (or keep) the limit of stripers for your boat and continue ?perch? fishing you have entered that grey area.

The winter is not an issue; you can catch and release as many stripers as you want.

The law’s the law for a reason.
Stripers are starting to make a comeback, the population of them in Santee had dropped drastically in past years in part due to dumb rednecks who think they can do what they want, just because this is 'Merica.
As noted, there’s a reason why they closed the season for part of the year.
Thats right and I could really care less what you thought about it. Next time you think about a striper I want you to Invision me ripping a striper lip wearing shorts and shooting you the bird. Because thats the picture ive got going on.

Guess I nailed the “dumb redneck” description.
The word is “envision”, not “Invision”, Einstein.
Be sure to flip the bird to the DNR guy that pops you for catching/keeping stripers out of season, I’m sure he/she will appreciate it.
By the way, aren’t you the same dumb redneck that shot holes in his own boat?
Never said anything about keeping them. Even if I did I wouldn’t worry about dnr. There to busy harrassing people and writing life jacket tickets to actually do there job. Also I can’t recall shooting a hole in my own boat. However others may not have been so lucky. So put that in your pipe and smoke it professor anal.

Your own words…“Last time I checked I live in America hope of the free. Catch all you want sir just don’t gry caught with them”.
I realize you’re a bit limited intellectually since you’re still working on your online GED, but advising someone “not to get caught with them” is advocating illegally keeping fish out of season.
As I remember, some guy on the Inshore forum posted a pic of reds in a cooler, and he had more than the limit. Someone nicely pointed out that his pic was self incrimination, and nicely advised him to delete it.
You then jumped in blabbing about how wrong it is to have limits, that you lived in “Murica”, and you’d keep whatever you wanted to. Then you went so far as to say if anyone turned you in, you’d shoot holes in their boat.
Well, dummy, I know DNR agents that monitor sites like this looking for dummies like you. And if they want your IP address just for the purpose of finding out your name, I’m sure they could get it.
You can guarantee if I see you willfully breaking the law, I’ll drop a dime on you. And when that DNR agent sees your name and realizes you’re the moron who keeps advocating breaking the law, they’ll probably cinch your cuffs a click or two tighter.
And when they’re driving you off, you’ll see ME standing there in a pair of shorts, flipping you off.
Also dumbass. “Dont get caught with them” MEANS dont keep them you uptight prick. Don’t you have park bench to get back to? So you can sit around all day feeding the birds yelling at the kids for playing there music to loud?
Also dumbass. “Dont get caught with them” MEANS dont keep them you uptight prick.
Obviously you’re too stupid to understand when you’re encouraging someone to break the law, then you say, “catch all you want, don’t get caught with them” it means keeping them.
You already have a history of posting the same uneducated redneck bullcrap here on another forum.
I’ll reiterate…if I ever see you breaking a wildlife law, whether it’s keeping under/oversized fish, keeping more than the limit, or purposely trying to catch stripers during closed season I’m dropping a dime on your dumb ass.
And I’m going to smile and flip you off while they’re driving you away.
Wow the high point of your argument is that your a yellow bellied snitch. You must make your family so proud. Also the only time there gonna be " driving me away" as you put it is after I beat a mudhole in your old ass. If you don’t believe me try me. I’m sure you would love to give people trying to enjoy there god given right to fish the electric chair. But it’s just not gonna happen. And why are you so uptight about it? Do you think by limiting everyone else’s abilty to fish will magically alow you to catch a fish? Don’t blame me for your lack of productivity on the water. I think that your just jealous that you couldn’t catch crabs at a whore house. My advice to you is to pull your head out of your ass and maybe listen to some of the fishing advice on this site. Instead of looking for someone to take out your frustrations on. Good day SIR…
All of this internet bullying because I pointed out the SCDNR state law on targeting or catching Stripers? Wow. WHY DON’T YOU TYPE IN ALL CAPS. I FIND IT MORE INTIMIDATING
