Shorefishing

I am coming to charleston next weekend and wondering if there is any places to fish from shore or that are wadable? Want to know if if is worth it to bring my stuff. Thank you in advance for any info!

I’m not certain, as I don’t do much surf fishing, but I don’t think the surf is particularly active in the winter.
There is a forum on the website specifically for surf fishing and those guys can probably help you more.

Not just surf fishing, but wondering about rivers and such that are accessable and by foot and able to fish from shore or wadable?

Fish from the fishing piers…Mt. Pleasant, Folly Beach, Isle of palms.

Most of our river banks here are made up of pluff mud. You will sink to your waist after a few steps.

^^ What he said. Be very careful wading along inshore banks, or you can find yourself neck deep in mud with an incoming tide. As a general rule, the shorter the grass, the harder the bottom. Tall grass = deep mud.

you could rent a fishing kayak, plenty of good water to sneak back into in a small boat!

I think I would give the Mt. Pleasant pier a try. From all the magazines that place is killer for winter Sheepshead.

A wise man once said “Do as I say not as I do” Good advice when I tell you that.

I’ve seen good stuff come from the surf, big redfish in particular, using cut bait like a croaker steak. Best good spot is the Mt Pleasant pier north side of big bridge… flounder, spotted trout, sheepshead, red fish all there per suggestions in above posts. Fish under a cork just off the bottom.

Gonna rent a kayak and mes around in a river, any certain place that ic convient to rent fishing kayak from? As far a tackle i have all the typical inshore stuff, mirrolures, jigs with gulp, spooks, spoons, poppin cork. Any suggestions on winter fishng the river waters would be appreciated!

Be really careful out there on a kayak, the wind and current can ruin your day. The guys over on Folly Beach do a good job, and Bowen’s Island rental shop which is on the right just before Folly Beach are also good spots. The Bowen’s Island area has lots of fish too.
