Short, Curved Butt

is it true that the aftco short bent butts are not likely to fit in a gunnel/transom rod holder? i know the long butts are plenty deep enough. what are the chances the short butts will not hit the bottom and just swing around in the holder?
thanks.

Most rod holders are a bit too deep for the short bent butts. Check out pinnacle marine supply/ pinnacle rods. He sells a short bent butt that will fit in standard rod holders. 210-364-6943 Email: pinnaclemarine@satx.rr.com rs.

I’ve got the pinnacle ones and they are exactly what you want. They are a medium one. I’m not sure if short ones don’t fit. I think it’s just that they sit so low that you can’t crank the handle while they are in the rod holder.

Dang, and here I thought this thread was gonna be about…

I was waiting for LSK to provide her thoughts on this!

Tell me about it Russ. I was getting ready to pick a a fight, thought they were describing my wife.

Short bent butts for standup fishing do not fit securely in a standard rod holder. I am not familiar with the pinnacle butts. In the past I used the inserts that effectively raise the bottom locking pin height so the rod doesn’t swing in the holder. I always use a safety line with any bent butt rods and even dog the safety line off tight when using the standup bent butts so the rod doesn’t jump out the holder on the strike.

Fighting bigger fish on heavier tackle (50’s and 80’s) with standup gear is a rush and short bent butts really help the angler. The problem is you need to be fighting bigger tunas or blue/black marlins to truly even need standup bent butts. Just my 2 cents

more great advice. thanks.
