What are the rules for shooting ducks in the ocean?
Was out there yesterday seeing a ton of shotgun shells floating around on the north and south jetty. Was kind of surprised to see dudes shooting ducks on the water with all the boat traffic around.
No special rules… sounds like some guys trying to intercept some buffleheads flying along the coast. There will be 5 more jon boats out there Saturday because of this post.
ton of scoters out there, doubt NE @15-20 on saturday will be good jon bote gunning in the ocean tho…
i’ve wondered about that before too, as the jetties could possibly be construed as “shore” or “island” if the goal were to create separation between a boating thoroughfare and hunting area. would be cool to do cast and blast sheep trip!
“Sea Duck Area and Duck Limits Within this Area. The sea duck area is the Atlantic Ocean waters separated from any shore, island or emergent vegetation by at least one mile of open water. In this area, the sea duck limit is 5 with no more than 4 scoters, 4 eiders or 4 long-tailed ducks. In addition and within this area, a hunter may take up to 6 other ducks as described for the rest of the state but not including sea ducks. The shooting of crippled waterfowl from a vessel under motor power in the sea duck area is allowed.” http://www.dnr.sc.gov/regs/migratorybird/season.html
Duck hunters have become the new stillhunters. The biggest jackass with a gun.

Ok, I’ve encountered a couple jackleg duck hunters while fishing, but what’s the deal with Still hunters? I don’t get the jackleg issue with a still hunter? Other than my nephew moving my stand and feeder with out permission.
