Shots Fired in Guerin Creek

This past sunday I was fishing with my two sons (8 and 12) in Guerin Creek. We were way back in the creek. There’s one single house and a dock back there. We are fishing near the dock, and shots ring out from the direction of the house. I holler, “Hey, you can’t shoot us just for fishing this creek.” Well, he didn’t agree with that statement. He appeared from behind his screened porch, and started firing on us. For one second I wasn’t sure if he was firing on us or in the air, but bullets began hitting the marsh grass around us. They were making “thwack!” sounds as they hit the pluff mud on the bank, and a couple hit the water right next to us.
We called 911 and got out of there. Police asked if I wanted to press charges and I said I did. They said I’d hear something from them by Monday. But nothing. SCDNR contacted me. I can tell they are not going to do anything. The cops talked to the guy who did this and he admitted to shooting, but said I must be confused–he was just doing target practice at the time (yeah right).
As I’ve talked to others I’m finding that this isn’t a one-off. This has happened to other people. In fact, one guide I spoke to this week has almost exactly the same story as me–right down to the guy again telling the cops he was doing target practice.

I’m having a pretty hard time saying, “Oh well, I’ll just let it slide.”

I was doing nothing wrong. I was taking my kids fishing in public, state-controlled waters. And we end up leaving there with a pretty terrifying experience for my kids.

If anyone on this forum has had a run in with this guy, I’d love to hear from you.

I promote violence to the fullest. He sent rounds your way, as well as others, burn his house down with him and his dog in it…probably won’t happen again IDK
Option #2 don’t retaliate yourself, but there’s a lot of folks that will make it right for $20 and a case of beer
Option #3 least favorite, knock on his door and apologize for fishing in his water and that it’ll never happen again…I prefer Option #1 :muscle:

Is there a boat on this dock?

If it were me I’d get the guys name, address, and a picture of the dock and house from the water.

Then I’d post that info here, and on the Facebook if you are so inclined.

Then I’d go to the magistrate, one you know or who knows someone you know, and tell him your situation. Id wager you get more accomplished that way verses the DNR and county Leo’s.

my .02 cents

What’s this guy’s name ?
He might be connected with DNR or the government
They might send in some undercover agents like when the crabbers put out a hundred poles and wouldn’t let anyone shrimp their bank.
I figured someone would have a video of this dude
And most importantly
Two or more people cannot keep a secret

Dayum, that’s crazy. Glad you and the kids are ok

Is this the guy?

If it is, here’s his address

That’s the house. I’m aware of who it is.

1737 Guerins Bridge Rd, Awendaw, SC 29429 | Zillow https://search.app/2BXXtMTS7Qpfymjr6

What’s his name?

I’ve just been notified that DNR is talking to someone else right now who had this happen to them as well by the same person. I think I’ve got what I need. Thanks all. - Bryan

See ya next time you need something

Welcome to the site

Seems like a good way for him to get shot back at

Don’t do that rap
You’ll come out on the losing end
People that have docks are messed up in the head
They think they’re better than everyone else
Should be illegal

get a lawyer and go after him!

We don’t leave you fishing for information!

That actually used to be the mantra of the entire site. You remember those days, dont ya

I hope law enforcement doesn’t let you down. Video evidence would be your best friend.

Hopefully you all have a positive outcome. The dude, not so much…

I vote for STB as our CF mechanic
I think he can fix things

I am a mechanic…the only thing I cant fix is a woman
I can make her purrrrr, I can make her do things some thought were unimaginable, I can even make her run fast…but fix??? YouTube can’t even comprehend that level of frustration.

Side note, we hunted adjacent to his property this past season…and now that I know what’s been going on out on the water side, $20 won’t be necessary for me deal with him direct
