Should I buy this boat???

Been trying to find a boat between the $5-6000 dollar range. Mainly for the rivers and creeks. I came across this one (line below)…What are the pros and cons??? Could I ever use this to cut through the harbor to hit other rivers…could I get the price lower…any help would be great.

that hull is the current Hewes Tailfisher hull. Assuming it’s a 17’, pathfinder made a 15’ and a 17’ i believe. I would have no problem buying that boat. I’ve heard the ride is a bit harsh, but it’s a flats boat, so that’s to be expected.

as far as the harbor goes… unless it is super nasty, you should not have any problems crossing.

check out the m/h/p forum as well. tons of info.

thanks floater will do

Considering the fact that it comes with STERN lights…AND BOW lights – I’d say it’s one helluva deal! Seriously though, decent deal on a flats boat. I’ve done wors3 waters than you mention in a 16’ skiff. I’d assume you’d be fine…

are bow and stern lights not usually found on flats boats??? I’m just kind of wondering how that 50 will push, with 2 other people…?

I believe that is a 17T. We have one that we bought a few years ago and it has been a great boat. The boat does what it is designed to do well, run and float skinny. Check out the MHP website for lots of good information on the boat or send me a email if you have any questions. Lots of those boats in Flordia so the Flordia Sportsman website has some for sale to get an idea about pricing…

ive had the 17t runnin about 34 trimmed out… shallowest boat ive been on for tha kind of money. i would offer no more than 6500 tho. maybe 6000.

ft worry.

thanks guys, im going to give it an offer of 6300 and see what happens!

Not $6300. You can always go up, but you can never come down. Know it. Love it. Live it.

Just make sure they know you are open to a counter, “I’ll give you $5500 cash today, will that work?”

I looked at a few around 2000-2001 and the word I got when I asked actual people that sell them was that they were wet in big water. Only reason I replied with that is because you asked about the harbor. The harbor seems rough many more days than it seems calm in my opinion.

I also feel that it is no where close to an $8k boat in my opinion. I see your range is $5-6, like jimislander said start low!

Have you checked the hewes/maverick forums?

Also give a quick call to tailwalker marine and ask them a few questions if they have a minute.

so you dont have first hand experience …

no. After doing my research I found it was not for me. I looked very hard at them 10 years ago.

thank you.

So was I lied to? Is it a good boat for harbor crossing on most days that are less than perfect?

Can’t answer that. I don’t have first hand experience in one.

if you run across the harbor frequently, i would either change where you go, or dont buy the boat. it will beat the crap out of your body on a rough day. im 25 and a long day of choppy water and my back is hurting pretty bad. and thats bein as gentle as possible when drivin. there aint no plowing through the wake in that boat.

ft worry.

p-k
thats teh same boat mitch had
I have run that a few times
does shallow water really good
slides as bad as a carolina skiff in a turn
soaks you in a chop
the bottom flexes like a diving board
until today, my computer wouldnt let me open links, so I didnt see what boat it was until now.
thats the last boat I would want to cross teh harbor in, on anyday, because of potential boat traffic.
whatever you do, river test that boat in any kind of chop

I’m now at www.teamcharlestonmarine.com

i looked at that boat about 2 months ago and offered 5500 he wouldnt take it
its over there off 41 clements ferry it would be a nice river boat and thats it
