With Russ’ passing it would be nice to honor him in some way? Thoughts? Send flowers to the funeral.

Hell Yes Capt. We need to do something. Sit at the cut and have a moment of silence at a minimum.
Going to Church doesn’t make you a Christian any more than standing in a garage makes you a car.

Russ who?!?!?!
Russ Broward…he was top2bottom1 on CF.com…loved the outdoors and has many friends on this forum…
and yes, we will do something to honor him…depending on the type of service his family will have I’m not sure he would be all into flowers, but I might suggest a donation to some worthy cause that promotes the outdoors…I’m sure we can get creative and make it something to remember him by…

I would be happy to make a “reef memorial” kinda like the one for Stan if yall want to go that way.

Ok…so I thought to ace it at my house…but really think it would be nicer by the water. Russ loved sitting at the cut with us…many ,
Many good memories there. My thoughts were to maybe meet there late Saturday afternoon…? Or Sunday afternoon… Late in the day…say five ish Thoughts? Another thing, his sister rebecca said she knew how much he loved all of us and charleston…and was happy to share him with us because it made him so happy. I was thinking that anyone who could bring a picture they may have of Russ…write down a story of a time shared…I could put it all in a photo album and send to the family so they too could see what Russ meant to us in words and pictures. Ed…that would be wonderful. Yesterday was Stan’s bday. We would appreciate your honoring Russ that way…and he would too. Y’all let me know what s good for everyone else and we will be there.

Carl-
What’s the “policy” regarding a plaque at MI lighthouse?
He was a man of the sea.
Sunday 6:PM at the Cut sounds good to me…
I would be more than happy to take something out to the lighthouse to honor Russ, but I am not sure a “plaque” would be appropriate…this idea might best be discussed in private or in person…y’all bring some ideas Sunday to the Cut…

Rap had a suggestion that was nice. Maybe a step …or some part we could replace in honor of Russ. He would like that I’m sure. The sea was his home too. Will make more p,and closer to time. Maybe bring some food to share. Russ loved food ;). Will miss him and Stan coming to eat with us…now just have to feed Collin…the last of the three musketeers Lol…and putting weight on him isn’t likely to happen. What a roller coaster of emotions. I’m so glad we had the dinner for him before he left. Will let y’all know when I hear from his sister today what their plans are.
Again…please bring any pics or notes you’d like to send in a special box I’m sending the family. Mementos of Russ and what he meant to us for them to have and share. …And in case you dont know. i love you guys and girls…Penn

quote:Yes. I know who Russ is and thought you might be referring to him, but I hadn't heard the news yet, so wanted to verify. Sad stuff. I had no idea he was even sick. Russ seemed like a pretty straight up dude and I am sure he will be missed by all...

Penny…I want to do a message in a bottle that we can all sign or write something on. The next one of us to head to the Gulf Stream could send it on its journey.

Rap also suggested a reef marker like we did with Stan.

Count me in if ya’ll do a marker or something. Russ was a really good guy.
Being from Lexington, I can’t say that I ever met Russ, or any of you for that matter, but I can certainly relate to the friendships you all have. To lose someone close like you all did is tough. I too love the low country and the smell of low tide and the feeling of salt in the air. Prayers for Russ’ family and all his CF friends.
I will be at the cut Sunday with an offshore reef memorial for Russ. It will have a water proof compartment for notes, messages, pictures etc. you want to bring for him.

Ed…thank you so much. I know this was short notice for you to do this. I am looking to get a wreath of flowers for us to place in the water… only problem Im having with it is that our middle son is getting married on sunday at 2 in cross. small wedding. we will be back by 6…but trying to figure out what to do about flowers. Russ"s sister posted on facebook how touched they all were by the notes and pictures…as well as the mention of a memorial to Russ. Losing russ when it seems we just lost Stan is tough. Its a sad time for sure
