Shrimp in the Creeks

Just bought a shrimp siene and was wondering if anyone on here ever try using one in the summer months to catch shrimp & has any luck or was it to early? Thanks in advance for any tips or suggestions!

Too early. Brown shrimp will be in creeks in a month or so, whites by late June. Make sure you’ve read up on how much of the creek you can block, etc. and be ready for lots of salad shrimp!

I’m assuming salad shrimp are just the small grass shrimp? Appreciate the info!

Small shrimp in general… that was a throwback reference for the likes of Phin and Dragonmouse

I remember helping my dad and his buddy seining smaller tidal creeks in the 80’s. Hot water, pokey grass, and baskets of shrimp with a lot of small fish bycatch to sort. Don’t remember disappointment in the least at the size though, great memories- get out there and make ‘em. One time dad had the outside pole on a deep bend and was up to his chin with shrimp jumping in his face- they can hurt when they hit right. As he came back up to mid-chest deep, I watched one jump right into his shirt pocket. 30 years ago, and I’ll never forget that one small shrimp!

Should be some little brownies getting catchable soon in creeks, water in main rivers was consistently 70-72 yesterday. Good luck, let us know how you do!

They were small in the creeks over the weekend. Largest I saw was barely 2 inches. Lot’s of 1-1.5" though. Plenty of other bait though…I mean plenty!

BW, those creek shrimp will grow pretty quickly though, as in be 3 inches in a few weeks? Maybe 6 or 8 weeks?

…well, some fishing too!

Messed around yesterday in the river with a new cast net and managed a couple in a few casts. Nothing great but a good little snack
