I have purchased maps of bulls bay with locations of likely fish spots and they are pretty accurate but vague…I would love for someone to have maps of our coast specifying locations where shrimp are abundant…Someone could really get rich that sells those…
I would be a customer. And I bet tel would too.

If only it were that easy. 3-4 years ago we had “go to” spots mid bay, that
last year we could’nt even get to at low tide. We had some years where we slayed them in
front of bird key, and other years where we’d get zip there. Finding the spots is half the
art and they can change year to year, although there are some areas that are generally good.
Shrimping just like fishing requires time on the water and years of time put in. Maps are the last thing this town needs. Currently it seems people want a map or a gps to wipe their own arse. Certain fishing maps have helped those that just moved to town and didn’t want to put the time in learning to fish and as a result many more fish spots get hammered. If you actually need or want a map to go shrimping, then you are simply foolish to the long term result of that happening as well as you are out there for the wrong reasons. Catching no fish or shrimp in a session teaches you just as much as catching your limit, it just sucks going home with your tail in between your legs. Figure it out like the rest of us did
Well said Thanks for the input… I personally dont have a problem finding shrimp…All input is positive. I try to go to more isolated areas to bait but still have the gawkers with poles scouting me and as soon as they see a net with shrimp they set up close by…Dont you think good maps of popular shrimp producing areas would benefit those of us who seek their own spots???

What a lot of folks on here forget, is that at one time or another , we all needed or asked for help on something. And got it with a smile. Not sure what the hell is going on here, But find it hard to understand the rudeness and the outright arseholedness of some on here. A woman chastised for putting up a map. Others told they are lazy for asking for help. I guess the only reason for the shrimping site is to brag about your catch. And these same folks are the ones who go to church on Sunday and make sure everybody knows how great they are and how they all want to help their fellow man. The higher up your pedastel gets, The easier it is to tip over. GET OFF THE CROSS FOLKS, SOMEBODY ELSE NEEDS THE WOOD.
Nice first post Bigskyone. Welcome!

Could not agree more dfreedom. I’m in a kayak and new to shrimping. I can throw a net well. But in a kayak I need to know where. Because I’m one polling and limited by how far I can paddle. Sucks When people won’t help to give me a chance. Some people one here are great and really do help. Stick in there. They will come to our aid. Ha. To hell with the rest.
Brgard you can try putting in at the old pitt st bridge paddle out and stay to the right . It is pretty shallow most of the times and not may boats go over there unless its a little Jon boat . I have caught shrimp there at night but never tried during the day . Be carefuli if you do go out at night and make sure you lights and a reflective vest wouldn’t hurt

I wish I had some good shrimping spots…last year I think I got enough for a cocktail…after going out 3-4 times, once in Bulls Bay and a few times in the harbor.
I’ve been to Bulls Bay 2 times but each time I’ve been able to get around using the info I learned photoshopping these images. Hope they help:
So far this year I’ve seen very few people shrimping around Crab Bank at from Shem Creek. Years past Crab Bank has been covered with shrimpers. Good luck, hope you find them.

IMO shrimping and some idea of peace and quiet that you can normally attain fishing are two different things. This idea of some far fetched, private shrimping paradise is a fairy tale. The best spots everyone knows about. I can tell you this. If you want this serenity that you seem to long for…explore areas above Bulls Bay…up to Georgetown. Winyah Bay shrimp are usually small…Later in the year you can get into some that are worth going after. One last nugget I can throw at you is that not many people shrimp.or fish for that matter the Santee delta. I have heard tales of good shrimping there if there are extended periods without rain.
Game that’s a gorgeous image of the Bay. When I look at GE it doesn’t look that good. I heartily agree with the majority here who are interested in everybody having a good time which includes catching shrimp. I hope all the malcontents are meeting some inner need to offend people. The rest of us may have a better year than the past two, not because of our ineptitude, but because someone showed us how and where.
“Claim” sorry.
This is a little late but I usually repost this at the beginning of every season, its a map to South bulls bay for those that have not been. Now tel, come get me!

I’m not as experience as many on this site, but I have some. The “secret” to daytime shrimping is to understand that shrimp are on the very bottom of the food chain (almost). They cannot show themselves in the daytime or they will get eaten! They will NOT be anywhere where the visibility is more than about 6", preferably less. When you go to Bulls bay, look for the very dirtiest water you can find. Should be billowing silt almost opaque. Try there. If the water is semi clear, you might as well go fishing instead. My go to spot is to come out Anderson creek and head straight for the tip of Bulls. Maybe 1/4 mi from the breakers and go left and hunt around for dirty water. On incoming those breakers seem to silt up the water real good. When and if I go there this year, that will be my strategy.

Again, Look at the Map…Shrimped Bulls Bay Friday. The were in there on the top of tide and a little on the other side of tide. The poles were wobbling like crazy on out going tide…Then they shut off. I should have known, the current was too strong. Think like a shrimp…if you were going to eat dinner and meet a girl would you be able to do that in a hurricane? No…They have come in the area for one thing and the conditions have to be right for it-just like us. The above map is a good example of current.
We coolered out 2 times this weekend-2 days. I went back to the tried and true the second day-moved. What do I look for?
Calmer waters - soft current deep water 8-9ft close to ocean
Moon-Tidal height. More water leaving the bay faster-current
Seagulls
Manhaden-If you catch them DON’T leave! Look on your depth finder. When the tide rolls-changes the shrimp slam- even at 7-8ft!(That is some stinkin dang fish buddy.)
Wind? I am not sure if this makes a difference-makes me consider velcrowing the shoes to the bottom of the boat.
Time of day-SC coast winds kick up at 2:00 every day all year long. I find it better to be on the water very early.
Sun- doesn’t matter. Again if they are in there, there in there.
Bait-one per pole. Let them fight for position.
Circle Poles-this is a slight controversy for some. I watch a chick slam the boat in reverse at least a zillon times-poor worm gear. I could hear the pitch in the water-don’t the shrimp hear it and see the pluff mud kick up as a sign of danger-dolphin? In the lowest gear we circle the pole keeping a good idle speed. This method also keeps from pulling the bait off the pole and I am pulling straight up vs at an angle. We caught shrimp in 18" of water with this method. But, again everyone has their way-may not work with bigger boats.
(Ps Do they make a sling shot to put in a bait ball for the boats that fly on the water next to your poles? My evil eye and hands on my sassy hip isn’t working.)

Dave, that’s MY spot! Stop telling everyone!
You are correct though, I look for that “swirling” silt in the water. If it isn’t there, you only catch a handful of suicidal shrimp.
