Shrimp Poles

Looking to upgrade from my PVC home-made ones to fiberglass. Who has the best deal out there around Charleston? Thanks!

set in clssifieds for $100!

What classifieds? I didn’t see them on this forum, Craigslist, or P&C…

Here you go:

Local and a sponsor.
I bought my Stake out poles from Titan. Delivered to my door and timely.

What is the big advantage of fiberglass over just PVC? Is it just durability?

Durability, flexibility, weight…
I can throw the whole set over my shoulder and not struggle. I can drive over them in the water and they will flex some but not break if I float over them. Very visible in the water too. The pointed and flared tip on the end doesn’t seem to hold into the mud too hard when you go to pull them up. They float.
I am cheap and will make something even if it means it is harder to deal with, but these, to me, are worth it.

I’m like joseph69, I love DIY but sometimes you just have to bite the bullet and agree that someone else makes it better than you ever can.

No parts to rust.
Last for-almost-ever
No maintenance
No worries if they will work next year or if you have to build new ones each year
Float
Dont flop around like a loose noodle, helps when transporting.
Dont bend over in current
Very durable
Light
easy to see

So…back to the original question, who has the best deal out there? Anybody have a used set of fiberglass poles they are looking to unload? There have usually been some guys from Orangeburg/Columbia in the past that people speak highly of, but I haven’t seen anyone bring it up yet.

I know black river marine in Orangeburg has them, but I’m not sure of the price. Give them a call 803 536 2277. I bought mine from there a few years ago, been worth every penny.

I have a brand new set of fiberglass 10’ poles. They don’t have tips, but they work fine without tips, or you can add as set yourself. These never saw the water; just sitting in my basement. PM me if interested. I’m in lexington

there was a set of yellow 14ft for a $100 in the swap shop. Cant find it now, guess the deleted it, sorry.

give mike a call in newberry. 803 321-3048. he makes them there and has a fair price.

If you don’t want to drive to Newberry give me a call or text( I’m located here in the lowcountry). My prices are very fair also. I am running a shrimp season special: with the purchase of a set of shrimp poles you can buy a 10 ft shallow water anchor pin for $60. On the water these make a nice 11th pole to tie off to and have a beer between runs.

I just got 3 anchor pins(2 for yaks and 1 for the boat) from Titan and they’re really good quality. I’m excited to try them out. It looks just like store bought(but better since it has metal tips) for a fraction of the cost.

The fiberglass shrimp poles are the way to go without a doubt. We bought them the first year and haven’t looked back.

Hoppy as a set fr sale. 100.00 I think

FYI, Mike in Newberry no longer sells shrimp poles.

Found this guy on Craigslist. Set of 15’ Shrimp Poles $165 </font id=“red”> he sells single replacement poles and has machined metal tips as an option. I live near Columbia and Rick has a brother in-law there so I didn’t have to drive a couple hours to pick them up, real handy. They are equal or better than any other set of poles I’ve seen; they are extruded fiberglass with UV protectant they came with reflective tape and and capped end pieces. I gave one the old bend test when I got home, first they are very rigid and took some effort to get it to bend but I didn’t hear any snaps or pops that would tell me the fiberglass job was crap. Tell him Gunny told you about him, not gonna get a discount but he might shoot the breeze for a couple min.

Gunny, I’m glad you like the poles and hope you cooler out many times. Are you the one whose son turned a set of shrimp poles into 8 ft tomato stakes with a riding lawnmower? I ran over a pole in the tall grass a few weeks ago…not a pleasant sound under the mower deck.

Anyway, to keep someone in the lowcountry from getting puzzling phone calls, I hope you don’t mind me taking the liberty to correct a phone # posted above.

my brother-in-laws number is (803)873-0736

Mine(Rick) is (843)729-9170

I didn’t think about making them into tomato stakes thats about all they are good for now… Thanks for putting up the right number…
