shrimping forecast insight?

So last year I heard “the shrimp moved out too early because it was too DRY”, now they say they’re moving out early because its too WET?! Man, this is frustrating - hoping for a better season than last year… anyone got any insight on things? Magic eight-ball predictions welcome haha

According to Tideline magazine it is gonna suck! Just going to tell the wife I am out shrimping, bring the rods and beer, and buy the shrimp on the way home! Win-win all the way around.

It seems the season is always opposite of the dnr prediction. No offense to my dnr buddies

Better not tell you now

I’m gonna take my chances with some buddies and cold beer…if they are there, I will catch them…if not then we will have fun trying…

I expect good numbers, but small size. Last season we had the mild winter so the shrimp had a head start and were very large at the beginning of the season. This year we had a more normal winter and with the large breeding population that made it from the previous year, there will be plenty, but small in size until later in the year.

That’s just my prediction, so its probably wrong!

fish today work tomorrow

Gonna be a BUMPER crop. I’m like tigerfin, lots of shrimp, but a bit smaller to begin the season. By mid October, I’m thinking it might be the best in years in both number and size. Ice down the beer!

I’ll bring a fishing rod and hope for the best.

I don’t know where you were, but here in Charleston was one of the warmest winters in the past 10 yrs (water temp wise)

We are going to have a “KILLER” year!!! Either we gonna kill a bunch of them,or they’re gonna kill me and laugh! Either way, my Nattys will be on ice, and the brats will be warm…

Tons of little shrimp around! It should be better than last year.

Gigged Fri night from 2-6am. 4 Flounder, but MILLIONS of shrimp. All small, but better than seeing none like last year.

I caught good numbers last year but did this best in the 5 to 10 foot water. A ten foot net and four hours on average.

I sure hope I do better at shrimping this weekend than I did at dove hunting last weekend! I guess I couldn’t do much worse, so at least I’ve got that going for me…which is nice.

OccamsRaiser - same problem here with dove hunting; got a quick limit opening day, and then only pulled the trigger 3 times this past saturday hunting from 1-4. Talked to my brother in law who hunted another field, said the birds came out late, all his action was within a few hours of sunset. Next time i’m not getting in the field until about 3, 3:30!
