Shrimping from shore?

In Fl we shrimp off bridges, catwalks, etc etc. Does anyone do it that way here? Is there even anywhere to net a decent amount of shrimp?

never heard of anybody doing much of anything from shore around here…

Alot of people shrimp from and do well if it is in the right location.

Seems to me, I remember someone posting that they used to do well from the docks at the old Navy Base:question:

The shrimp in SC stay on the bottom, therefore bait shrimping-casting. The shrimp in Fl come to the top at night, you dip with a net. Different techniques same results. They are huge in FL.

Before I learned about baiting, the only kind of shrimping I did was from shore. We had several spots on small bridges or shorelines on creeks down in the Beaufort area we did quite well at. We had one spot we actually waded and threw our nets.

used to catch plenty before the bait casting really got going with a drop net and smoked herring.

I’ll just keep looking. We’ve caught some shrimp. Last night we did the best with about 5-6doz but only maybe 30 were big enough to eat

Yes, I shrimp from my dock all the time, same results recently as you lots of shrimp, but mostly small to medium with a few large ones mixed in.

So is it illegal to use bait without poles from shore?

I doubt DNR is going to jump in the water and search for bait balls if they see you casting off a private dock! Just don’t have any in a bucket at your feet! Throw a couple in and start casting! The evidence will wash away! The perfect crime:wink:

Cracker, that’s how us old outlaws got old:wink:

I remember the older residents of the islands down around Beaufort punching holes in cans of dog/cat food and throwing those in the creek.

DF, were they using cat and dog food, according to what kind of fish they wanted for dinner:wink:

I’ll just get a permit. Hopefully ican get some edible sized scrimps

We had some luck baiting off of the old buzzards roast marina on the Stono.
