I was just wondering what the laws where surrounding shrimping. I have never been out during shrimping season and actually baiting poles or doing any of that. I was just wondering if it was illegal to just go up in a creek and then throw the cast net to see if i can get a bucket of shrimp?
No problem now. Food shrimping with a cast net is closed from Dec.16- April 30. During that period you can still cast for bait and are limited to 12 dozen, dead or alive. As of May 1 you can cast for food shrimp without bait, 48 quart limit per boat. Salt water fishing license required. Shrimping over bait is usually a 60 day season starting in late fall and requires a license, same 48 quart limit.

I’ve never baited shrimp in my life, and seldom had a problem filling a cooler without using bait. Lot of unnecessary hassle to me. My freezer is usually full before baiting season even come in. Going to give it a try tomorrow. It’s time.

I want to catch them all
My shrimping report today in the upper Broad River is dismal. Checked a bunch of creeks and didn’t find anything worthy of bait.
Fishing was almost as bad, caught 1 real nice flounder and 2 sting rays. Fished the entire falling tide and half the incoming. Had redfish swimming all under and around the boat half the day and they wouldn’t hit anything. Go figure.
Salvaged the day by scratching a 7 gallon bucket full of nice oysters. It was a beautiful day anyway, the boat didn’t break and nobody got hurt
