Also im a newbie and wondering if anyone knows anything about shrimping of crab bank or off the island off Pitt st bridge? Trying to find a productive place that I could kayak to… If anyone could reply or message me with some tips or info. I would be appreciative!!!

I’m not much help on locations, but shrimping out of a kayak is pretty sweet. I tried it last year and it went well. I brought one pole, secured in the paddle strap on the side of the kayak. I put a basket up front to dump the catch into and a separate bucket for the keepers. If you can cast a net from your kayak, it’s a snap. The one piece of advice I can offer is to make sure you have some way to secure kayak in position. You might need two anchors or an anchor and stick it pin. Since you will be in a kayak, you generally have one small area where you can cast your net and you need to make sure that is right over the bait. If you have only one anchor point, you will spend half your time getting into position before each throw.
Oh, and if you go out at night, make sure you are brightly, and correctly lit. There are several discussions on lights in the kayak forum. As you know, night time during shrimp season can get interesting.
You darn skippy you can watch… if we can hook my lights to your boat and go gigging! bahaha.
I am a man who is easily bored in doors. So I might not have a clue what im doing. But I will be outdoors and having a ball, thats for sure. Did I mention I love laughing at myself.
On the Gopro. I wouldnt miss the chance to give yall some entertainment! I will be taping my every cast and my every fall!! I envision the oh sh*t went to far “jump” dont flip the shrimp bucket

That is mad skill. I’m serious. But it looks like a disaster waiting to happen. I mean, what if you fall backwards in that pluff back there and kick your boat out into the moving tide? And, where do you put a 48 qt cooler of shrimp? And, how about the beer? And, where are the speakers on that boat? And, where do you keep your lighter? lol…just kiddin ya too busy. That really is too cool…

I don’t carry a 48 qt cooler when I go, but to answer your questions. First, let me say these pics were taken for a magazine article and I wasn’t rigged for shrimping.
Cooler goes in the back where the little blue soft sided cooler and milk crate are.
Sorting basket goes on the bow deck
Beer stays at the house

My question is, who in their right mind would try shrimping in the dark from a kayak at crab bank? If you have ever seen that circuis on opening weekend you wouldn’t attempt it. I would stick to less congested shrimping spots for safety’s sake.

Some have questioned my sanity at some of the activities that I have done as fun. But this has to be one of the least dangerous things i’ve done. Skiing in trees, walking in 3 ft of water gigging with sharks, kaying off 7 foot waterfalls, diving a 120 feet under the sea, kayaking tight creeks in the winter for ducks. As you see, these all are just a tad bit more “dangerous” than say sitting at your computer or standing in a kayak.
If its not me but the other boaters I need to worry about. I could only assume my kayak at 12 feet with one or four of my 24 inch lights that put off a few thousand lumins in all directions, could be seen for miles away. Now if we have idiots that dont pay attention. He is going to hit me like any other boat. At that point I just hope I learn acrobactic skills.
Now if you nah sayers want a hand on deck that brings the beer so he doesnt have to “risk his life or sanity” opening night. I would love to tag along and learn something.

I wouldn’t go to crab bank, just because of too many drunk fools. That’s just me. There are plenty of less congested / more peaceful places.
