Shrimping this week?

Anybody going this week? I’m wondering what the rain/storm and cooler temps is going to do to the shrimp. I have two friends that wanted to come down next week to go. I’m trying to decide whether to cancel it or not.

Looks like we are gonna roll the dice Friday at Bulls Bay. You won’t know unless you go.

I’m so excited I can barely cope,
I sizzlin’ like an isotope.

Depending on the wind we are going either Wednesday or Thursday night… will let folks know the outcome…

Cskiff,

Are you going to deep hole or bait when you go? Will be interested in how you do 'cause I’ll be going to BB the next week. That is if the shrimpies hadn’t left the area.

I will be baiting… I’ve got some in the freezer but curiosity has got the best of me… I’ve got to go try’em… will be sure to post the results…

I’m going this weekend as well. Will be going out of North Charleston on the Ashley river.

my son and i are coming down from lexington on saturday and stay over until sunday and give the bay a shot. hopefully we can at least get a cooler or so to make the trip worthwhile. it hits the pocketbook pretty hard on the fuel for the truck. then again; there is still fun in being on the water.

Coolbreeze, I’ll be coming down from Leesville. Know what you mean about hitting the pocket book. Think I’ll try for Sunday/Monday. Tide looks right and hope they are out there.

I have to go down from the Olde English District of the state. My wife has it figured that with the boat, camper, vehicle to pull both, gas, food, camping fees, nets etc., etc. my shrimp cost around $100.00 per pound. But when you factor in the friends I have made from all around the state, the people I have met, the people I have helped and those who have helped me and those I have pissed off and those who have pissed me off - Shrimping is still one of the best bargins there is!!! What a Buzz!

I will definatley be wearing my rubbers this weekend, it will probably be a really cold day out there but I have to know if there is another cooler out there with my name on it…

Thursday night!

guys i been thinkin of trying muddy bay friday in georgetown. i was out 4 weeks ago and the shrimp were there by the millions but they were all small/coctails size. im hoping they are still there and maybe growed up to atleast medium size. anyone have any ideas on winyah?

Gotitbad,

You would think those shrimp would grow up. They should molt after a full moon, growing their size exponentially. How much rain did you/they get with Sandy…?

Went down to Rockville/CP… started out windy and choppy however right around dusk it settled down nice. We where checking every 5/10 minutes seeing if anything had shown up, as the sky turned that nice red color, we caught a couple in one cast so started running the poles. They just never showed up in mass, got half dozen or so per cast. We went at it until we had about a quarter cooler maybe a little more and pulled poles. Air was chilly but we where dressed for it so the weather wasn’t a factor. We where still catching those few per cast when we left, sometimes it’s best just to pack it in (work today). What we got where good size mostly large with a few jumbo’s had very few small ones. I will try it again early next week.

CSKIFF,

How deep were you throwing? Also, did you happen to catch the water temperature?

Didn’t really pay attention to the water temp… When we placed the poles, depth was at 1.2 - 1.5 feet, when We started throwing it was up to 2 foot of water with an in coming tide, when we left it was at 5.5… Maybe the shrimp stayed out deeper…

We heading this weekend to Cow Pens. We go to the NOAA ocean web site and it will give you the forcast and the wave height. Very helpful due to driving a long distance. Looks great for this weekend.

Hey, we gals were in the Carolina Sportsman last month. We took a newbee - the husband was thrilled to have 2 ladies throwing a net and driving the boat!“Now this is shrimping at it’s finest.”

Gotitbad - I went to Winyah 2d weekend of the season and caught a cooler of gumbo size shrimp (were really good in the gumbo this weekend). But I’ve been 3 times since, all 3 in Muddy Bay in Winyah. First two times coolered, last time worked my butt off for a quarter cooler or so. But all 3 times they were substantially bigger than the first. Not BB size, but plenty big.

I think I’ll go fishin.
