Please read rule number 1 before you stock up on bait binder in your boat before baiting season. I surely would not be the one to test DNR’s reading of “any material that can be used to attract, lure or cause shrimp to congregate”. The fine would be the same amount as shrimping out of season.
Rule 1 is ambiguous and could apply to any chum on the market. DNR can’t give you a speculative fine unless you are being foolish. Don’t bait for shrimp prior to shrimping season, but do not ignore the other “attractive” uses for the product which are completely legal.
I have seen where a ticket was written for “shrimping out of season” for having plastic poles in a boat; no bait, no net. It went to court and the judge referenced rule number 1 and charged them with shrimping out of season. The full fine plus court costs had to be paid because another rule says fines can not be reduced. So, according to that ruling, you could have the bait with no poles or net and be charged. Actually, you could be spreading the bait along a certain bank and then retrieve your net to free cast. Or have friends in another boat come along behind you.
Anyway, I see you are a sponsor and want to sell this stuff. Thats fine and its good stuff. However, if you are going to promote carrying it on your boat out of season, I think you should agree to pay any fines aquired by such use.
If you are suggesting I pay fines for people that break the law, then I’m not exactly sure where you are coming from? And who ever got fined for carrying poles probably was doing something illegal. While you can read whatever you want into any rule you like, we do have the legal right to partake in activities that are not violations. Are you also afraid to travel because of terrorists?
Yes I am a sponsor, and I obviously love to sell my product. However, it’s not labeled only as a shrimp bait. Works great in a crab trap, in a minnow trap, for chumming cobia and kings, for catching state record hognose, and a million other uses which are totally legal in salt water. Please feel free to make your own personal choices and do so responsibly, but don’t pigeon hole a product on a public forum that serves multiple purposes other than shrimping.
Can anyone chime in here with other uses they have for Bait Binder?
Sorry you don’t understand my wording. Not suggesting you pay fines for people acting illegally. Only stated that if you tell everyone its OK to carry this bait on their boat out of season; you should pay any fines they receive for “shrimping out of season”. I’m done on this subject. Good luck to anyone taking the advice to carry this out of season.
misslily, I hid some in your boat when Jen and I were tied up there the other week seriously though, I understand the concern of having it in the boat outside of shrimp season, but to me if you don’t have poles in the boat then what is the difference in it and ground up chum? either way we need to hit it at least once this season, missed shrimping with you last year…
Misslily, I completely respect your opinions and concerns. Thank you for being the better person by ending this discussion. Take care and have a super shrimping season!

You are correct Mr. Sponsor…there are a millions uses for the said product. Often times on a hot summer day when I am out of Gold Bond I reach for a pinch of the binder.
Great post. In one month we shall go to the shrimping flats…Bait binder or not. It is like flippin Christmas. Lets have a good year slinging snot, full coolers and good landings.
Are there any LEOs on here who could comment on the legality of using bait binder, or any other chum, on a flat to attract redfish, etc. before shrimp baiting season? All chum, used in shallow water where freecasting for shrimp might be productive, would seem to violate rule #1. I’m just curious.
