Can remember growing up and my dad and strikers cooking this on the shrimp boat to be eaten over rice or grits…a quick easy filling meal. mom also cooked it at home and it is one of my favorites…not the fancy "shrimp and grits recipes you see today …but good easy southern dish)
shrimp
diced bacon( or butts meat)
diced onion
flour
oil
seasonings
water
rice or grits
chop up your bacon(or butts meat) and onion and fry or cook down in about two tablespoons of butter or oil until onion is clear and bacon is cooked but not hard…add flour and seasonings( I use salt/pepper and a dash of garlic salt) and then two tablesppons of flour…brown in oil…add water until desired consistancy…then add in your shrimp…cook over medium heat until done( I also add 1 tsp K. Bouquet) great dish for camping too.
serve over rice or grits(had in on grits for breakfast or rice for dinner)
you know…the browning/flavor stuff for gravies…little brown and yellow bottle…just added it to the flour browned in the bacon grease and added water in…dont know whats in it really…never looked…hmmmm
Tried your recipe last night… of course we can eat grits anytime of day! So it was ShrimpnGrits for dinner… Thanks for a great dish… First time I’ve tried shrimp and grits, my wife was pleasantly surprised at just how good it is… My daughter was out sitting in a tree stand somewhere, so I tried to save some for her… it didn’t make it… Told her to be home for dinner next time… thanks again
I wonder how good a little curry would be added to this recipe…had some over in Japan last month and it was delish…looked a lot like your dish Penny, that’s what got me thinking about it.
Thanks for this recipe Mrs. Penny. I cooked it Sat night for two guys from northern territories that had never had the pleasure of even the basics of this dish. When their wives picked them up at the end of the night they both said they were converted grits people.
