Side Imaging Help

Already posted this in boats and motors forum, but I didn’t think it would hurt to put it here as well.

I still cannot get any clarity on my side view after playing with the settings for quite a while. I’m attaching some screenshots in case I’m doing something basic wrong. There definitely should have been dock posts show up in all of these screenshots.

Details:
3-4 mph cruise speed - in a straight line
relatively flat seas
sand bottom
depth: 7-13 ft
scroll speed: variable, fast was clearest
Range: 50-60 feet
contrast: between 50 and 80 percent

Transducer mounted correctly on the outside of the hull?

I believe so pitcher, its on the transom but low enough that it shouldn’t be getting interference from the outboard.

Is that a Garmin unit? If so, there’s a seperate ground terminal, on the back of the unit. If it’s not grounded correctly, or at all, you see what you’re seeing. Other manufacturers may have this as well? But I know Garmin does.

It is a Garmin unit, the EchoMap 94sv plus. I will check if it is grounded correctly.

I have a Garmin and I do not see anywhere for another ground.I cannot find my owner’s manual. but I googled it and see nothing there. The only thing I seen about the ground.was to make sure the ground was to the same battery as the positive.

Go to the 13 minute mark on this tutorial. It’s the yellow butt connector, on the lower side of the unit. While this guy doesn’t even mention it, my side view, on my Garmin Striker, wouldn’t operate without grounding that connector. Otherwise the unit worked just fine.

The yellow connector doesn’t have a wire hooked to it. Idk?

Took me a while laying with the settings to get a decent image. Try turning the contrast higher. also increased the AGV setting that helped. Speed and water calrity seems to be big factors as well. I set up near a dock and just kept playing with the settings. good luck

I know, you have to crimp a wire to it, then to a ground source. I spliced a male/female connector, also, for ease of portability.

I spent several trips staring at, seemingly, the same crude screen as spooby42, until, I somehow managed to figure that I was missing the ground connection for the side view platform.

There ya’ go. It ain’t Rocket Science! My personal “Garmin”, by the way…

Side view problems? Ground it!

I get my boat back from the doctor. I will definitely be looking into that. That’s kind of B.S. on Garmin part.
Thanks. good info.

Thanks for the help guys. I’ll be going back to the coast this weekend, so I will try a couple of these ideas and see if I can get it to finally work right.

The second one is with the contrast turned up to around 70. But no matter what I think the garments are just lower end
