Side Of The Road Shrimp

Who said anything about baited shrimp? I can’t image anyone being stupid enough to sell baited shrimp, which is illegal to do, out of shrimp baiting season, on the Corner of Mill Street and Coleman Blvd, 200 yards from where shrimp boats are docked. And the guys selling there are shrimp boat owners and captains. It’s legally trawlled shrimp. And again, I was just wondering why DNR was messing with them? They are out there selling fresh shrimp every day now so maybe it wasn’t illegal. I think it’s a smart idea and nice for people wanting a shrimp dinner

You need a license to fish commercially and a separate dealers license to sell seafood. Its the same way in NC. This is because the fish houses who buy the fish issue a trip ticket to the fishermen. The trip tickets are reported to the state and that is how SCDNR know how much seafood is being caught. It’s a management tool used to manage the resource, not just another arbitrary license/tax.
