I have a buddy that works for Navico (owner of Simrad, Lowrance, and Northstar). He worked for Raymarine for a while and Furuno I believe. The guy is an encyclopedia of information on marine electronics. Anyway he was telling me that the that technology going into the Simrad NSE (Lowrance’s big brother) and HDSs would be considered a “disruptive technology” in the marine electronic sounder business. This stuff is suppose to be off the hook. I have wondered why we have not seen more offshore screen shots but most of the lowrance market has been consumed by our large mouth bass fishing friends. Very cool to see. I would like to see some live bottom shots as well. The next few years should really be exciting as this technology continues to develop.

First one is and APC at Bft 45 i think, second two are junk I found a parris island, and third is at clarks hill. I have seen much better images, but didnt take a picture. I plan on getting a whole lot more use out of it as soon as the weather turns warmer. Its been a good investment so far. And it does work really well for trolling, as you can see bait balls out to either side for 300’ swath. I gotta get a card so i can record though.
Same as you, Lowrance. But, i went a little cheaper with the HDS7. Wish i had gotten at least an 8" because I only have room for two functions on the screen. I am thinking of adding an 8 on the console top, because i like to switch functions a lot. when trolling i like to run side scan to look for bait and regular sonar for bottom view, but then i have to switch to map to see where I’m at. I think 2 would be better anyways, kinda crowded on 1 i would think. I wanna pre-map my trails on the computer, can anyone give me some advice?? Thanks
I want to see a screen shot of some 150 to 200feet.
Those are some of the more impressive screen shots I have seen from these units.
You can plan routes with the computer then upload them to the unit pretty easily.
That being said though, most of the built in charts these days are pretty spot on with bouys and such. I find that i rarely use way points inshore anymore. I mostly run off the chart data.
This would be a good application to have a HDS 10 or 12 and a HDS 5 or 7.
Use the big one for radar and map while running out with the little one as sonar. The switch to the big one for sonar and the small unit for map while fishing.
Anyone try the NSE yet?
Set the trap boys, we going to pass through them again!!
I just wanna map my trail out because I sometimes put in at new spots that i am not familiar with. and i"ve been known to “find” sandbars. I had the Insight map installed, and it is spot on with bouys and depth contours, but it would make it easier than trying to stare at the screen, and looking out at my surroundings.
