With low tide at 1am Sunday night my wife, a friend, and I decided to go sight fishing for flounder. We were hoping that the water would have cleared up from all the boat traffic by then. The wind was fairly calm so off we went. Got to my first creek and started pushing with the 2 women looking for the flatties. 5 minutes into the push we encounter another boat of sight fisherman working out of the creek we were going in. We kept on pushing only to encounter another boat of sight fisherman in the same creek. Time to change locations. Went to new area for us and immediately saw 2 small flounder. One was about 11 inches and the next one was about 13 inches. Encouraging but too small. Next flounder was 18 1/4 inches. Notice I didn’t say about 18 inches. We pushed on in this new area and saw several more small flounder. Picked up and rode to one of my favorite areas and immediately started seeing small flounder. We then saw one that was exactly 19 inches. Notice again this wasn’t a guess. We pushed on with my wife in the front and she was seeing several more small flounder. She is really good at seeing 8 to 10 inch flounder! I was doing the pushing and much to my surprise there was a flounder right under my light that neither lady had seen. I guess they were looking for the 8 to 10 inch variety. This flounder was exactly 20 1/4 inches. Notice again this isn’t a guess.
We ended the night with 3 nice flounder. 3 flounder = 12 nice filets. We knew that there would probably be several other sight fishermen out there with the tide being right on the weekend and also being a holiday too but we wanted to give it a try so we did. Not a great night on the retrieval end but it was an absolutely beautiful night on the water. There was no moon so there were TONS of stars out to see. We did see several other sight fishermen out there and we knew we would but we had fun and learned a new spot that will be visited again later this summer for a fun night of sight fishing for my favorite fish, flounder!!
Nice read. That’s my fave way to flounder fish

lol ya funny mofos…(sight fishing for flounders)…at night…LOL!
Good report.
Sight fishing at night for flounder is my favorite thing to do.
It’s funny you said “I guess they were looking for the 8 to 10 inch variety” because something like that happened to me. I was so keyed in on the 18 to 20 inch variety that I didn’t see a doormat sized flounder right under me until it spooked and splashed me, I was in 2 feet of water and it was big enough to get me wet. That was the biggest flounder I have ever seen, of course it’s the one that got away.
