silly trailer question

Just got my first boat that has a tandem axle trailer with hydraulic disk brakes. When maneuvering around my driveway, seems like the brakes activate when I’m pushing the trailer backwards (truck in reverse) and I haven’t bothered to plug in the light harness. Should this be??? Would I expect plugging in the harness would keep the brakes off in reverse?

that is correct
there is a brake lock out solenoid that is activated when the reverse lights on the tow vehicle come on

I’m now at www.teamcharlestonmarine.com

Thanks for the help!

I’ll try this weekend.

My Wesco has a pin that you can insert to keep the actuator from engaging. Fortunately all I have to do is pick up the phone now and won’t have to bother with it for at least another year:smiley::smiley::smiley:

Without the lights plugged in, the actuator will depress the brakes when in reverse. The harness has to be plugged in to bypass the actuator. When reverse is engaged, the harness will disengage the actions of the actuator. If you don’t have a five prong hookup, you’ll have to insert the pin to manually halt the action of the actuator. With the correct light hookup, the reverse gear with disengage the actuator.

Is this a pin somewhere on the hydraulic box on the trailer? I’ll go look in the morning.

You may or may not have a pin (mine is on a small steel cable that also acts as a latch safety when towing), but there should be a hole behind the trailer latch that you can insert a pin, bolt or screwdriver to keep it from pressing into the actuator when backing.

youfr better off getting the harness for your truck. its a lot easier than gettin out walking to the tongue adn putting the pin in every time. I used to do that till i finally got tired of it. now that i have the harness, i just back up and now problem
