I might as well have left the net home…along with my rods and reels, tackle, spoons, sabiki rig and gps/FF. Nove of it did me any good. Not a bite!!!
Talked to a couple of friends that were out and they didn’t kill them, but at least caught some fish on live bait. I just couldn’t seem to find any good concentrations of fish to have much a shot with the spoon.
Got them last weekend with bait about 60 ft, but this morning the fish seemed to be higher in the water column. I think I would have even tried freelines first thing in the morning if I had bait.
Hoping to have a little better luck in the river in the morning.

I thought it was not legal to fish the Saluda River below Lake Murray Dam, after June 1st.

Rick,
Im pretty sure they are talking about the lake. But they opened up the Saluda this year to catch and release. From the Lake Murray dam to Congaree is open for catch and release only. I guess they figured catch and release is fine down there with the cold water.

We fished Fri morning and saw fish from 30 to 60. Our pump to our bait tank decided to die right as we were setting up to fish. We had doubles at first light and that was it. I think weighted free lines would have been the ticket if we could have had more of a chance to fish.
Last Fri it was 60-80’ for us. I did notice they came up a good bit. This Fri night we were catching them 30-40’ AND the water temp was warmer…who knows what goes through these fishes minds…
Can’t wait for this weekend though…looking forward to my first trophy trip…
