Sinus Surgery Report

Surgery went well and I feel good! The polyp was about 2/3 the size of a baseball and had to be cut in 2 before he could get it out. I have no packing, because there was very little bleeding. I’m not allowed to work out for 2-3 weeks and can’t bend over or lift over 5 pounds for a few days. All that said, I feel like a new man!!.. Hopefully, I can fish again by around Tuesday:)

Thanks for all the prayers and support! Above all, thanks be to my Lord Jesus Christ who is using Dr. John Kirchner and his supporting cast as my instruments of healing!

Thanks for the kind words Jorge!

good gosh man. have you suffered from allergic rhinitis all your life? was it causing blockage of your sinuses/chronic sinus infections? (sorry for the questions, curious 4th year med student here) glad to hear it went well.

Great to hear it went well. It must be a huge relief to get that thing out of your head. Wow!

Happy everything worked out. That had to be some relief getting a large mass like that out of your sinus.

Pretty much yes, yes, and yes for the last 15 years. I would have 2-3 sinus infections per year since age 32. A CT Scan taken 6 years ago revealed only minor inflammation; therefore, my GP decided to just continue a regimen of Flonase and loratadine. However, my problems continued to worsen. It was not until March, when I had a violent sneezing fit that protruded part of the large polyp, that we realized how big a problem I had. We shrunk it with prednisone, but another ct scan showed my left sinus 99% blocked, and the procedure was deemed be necessary. Dr. Kirchner and his staff could not believe just how big this polyp had become! I was under for 2.5 hours, but feel like a million bucks today!

I just let things go on too long! Kind of like a frog that is placed in a pot of water brought to a slow boil:imp: Excuse the analogy. Certainly, I am grateful to have a resolution and for the support of family, friends, colleagues, and my fellow striper anglers(to make this a relevant thread:sunglasses:).

Good to hear Fogman!!

And yes, our Lord Jesus is GREAT!

If you find yourself in need of a fishing partner, let me know. I’m usually free any day of the week.

I’m hoping for Tuesday Crabjack. My father may join me, but my boat is big enough for 1-4 more… I’ll get with you Sunday or so. With 5-and-done, the more the merrier:sunglasses:

Glad to hear every thing went smooth.

Wow…For some reason, when I first read of you going in to get something removed from your sinus I was thinking something more along the line of the size of a pea or something like that. I know that gotta be a relief to get that out of there. Glad to hear it went well…

Yep. The doctor printed off a pic for me but walked out with it. I’ll hopefully get it when I see him Wednesday. I can’t believe something that big came out of my face! I think Dr. Kirchner was truly amazed as well. Most sinus polyps are not much bigger than pea-sized like you said.

That’s crazy. Not only will the sinus infections not occur as much, I bet you will be able to breath through your nose a lot better. I don’t see how those ENTs do some of the stuff they do. Hopefully the fishing will be picking back up by the time you get back on the water.

It is so great to be able to smell(even the unpleasant odors) and to be able to breath through both sides of my nose. Jennifer said I slept without moving for the first time in ages last night. I woke up after 10 hours with my face a little sore on the left side where the work was done. However, a little Tylenol has done the trick.

The fish will be there when I’m ready:smiley:

Glad it went well fogman!

If you’ve had fun catching fish on the transom bait, you are welcome…

I’ve spent about 85% of my life’s wages on fishing, the rest I just wasted…

That’s amazing! I thought I had something going on, had sinus infections 4x per year or so. I went to an allergist to see what he thought. Tested me and found I wasn’t allergig to anything. Gave me three months of antibiotics to get rid of “chronic sinusitis” that would almost, but never actually go away. I haven’t had any infections in 3 years now. As soon as I even get a hint of something, I take emergenC or what ever. Been great.

I’d imagine, you’ve got 1000x my relief.

BG

Thanks guys. I appreciate it very much… Bto, I feel great relief and will probably feel even better tomorrow when I am allowed to use saline. As of now, it’s great to be able to breath better and smell. Odors/aromas are just popping right now! Before I got so bad off, my sense of smell was right up there with my electronics in helping locate fish. I look forward to having that ability back on and off the water.

My advice for any sinus sufferer is to be aggressive in seeking care. I let it go too long, and the consequences could have been dire down the road. Our sinuses are not far at all from our eyes and brains afterall…

Hopefully my story can help someone out there. But enough about me… How 'bout some fishing reports guys and ladies?

Hopefully have a report for you tomorrow. Just loaded up to do some 5 and done fishing in the morning. 1 rod with a spoon…1 downrod…1 sabiki rod…no bait tank. Hopefully get them on a spoon, but if not, will stop and try and jig up some bait and lower it on the down rod.

Thought about leaving the landing net home too, but I don’t want to get carried away. LOL
