What are the advntages of the SOT kayak vs. the SI style kayak?
I have noticed that several manufacturer make very similar specification and configurations in both styles. I am looking for one to serve as a rig for shallow water and touring.
Hey FT: SOTs are generally more stable, you sit higher, if you flip you don’t have to roll to get back upright. You’re not limited in your movement like you are in a si. You can reach around more. And obviously more leg room. And I think they are easier for a beginner to handle.
Also, if a snake falls in the sot kayak you can wack him. If a snake falls in the si pit then I’m outta the boat.
I think sots are generally better for fishing. IMHO…
hope this helps…

Get a SOT…too many advantages, especially if you want to get out and swim, freedom of movement for fishing, easy to get in and out of at docks.
We went out of Shem Creek Saturday and paddeled all over the place for hours and didnt get wet at all. It was windy but the yaks glided across the water…
Bite,
I mainly fish out of a WS-Pamlico 14 and I can get in and out very quickly. It has a large main opening plenty of storage. I also have a Perception Storm that is also easy to get in and out. Plenty of storage. Either SI or SOT works. I think SOT’s would be cooler in the summer but I’d prefer SI in the winter with the paddle drip. Someone told me about a pretty cool site. Is the Pamlico desent as a touring yak? How about storage? I have to keep in mind the family will want to tour more than fish. But I need a stable platform to fish and photograph from.
