To be living in the past, and bringing up post from 3 years back.
agree high gas prices, cold water ,ruff seas
Think about it…It’s almost illegal to fish these days.
20 years ago I never would have thought that catching fish could land you in trouble with the law. Exception being catching them with dynamite or keeping WAAAAAY to many.
Short reply:
What a difference 3 years makes. 3 years ago, everyone said this all would never happen- that we were overreacting, desperate, exagerating, etc.

Long answer:
The site is not slow because of the economy, weather or lack of fish.
WE WOULD HAVE GONE FISHING AND POSTED A HALF DOZEN REPORTS PER WEEK BY NOW IF NOT FOR THE DRACONIAN CLOSURES AND RESTRICTIONS PUT INTO PLACE SINCE THE DATES OF THE REPORTS I HAVE BUMPED.
If I wanted to practice catch and release only, I’d fish in my pond or inshore. Or I’d play the wii whilst eating twinkies on the couch instead of throwing $400 or $500 into the water and risking people’s lives to go “play” in the gulf stream.
Someone tell me our DNR or the NMFS will accept data I collect offshore on a fish tagging expedition, and I will go catch and release for science’s sake. Or tell me there’s a catch and release tournament where there’s a point to me going and catching and releasing fish at such expense, and I’d be into it…

No worries, for a few days at least. With the gov shutdown that occurs tonight, we should be safe as the fed officials should have a couple days off. Nows your chance fellas, lets go get all you can fit in your boat!!
This weekend could change it all. Lets get out there.
SCDNR isn’t included in a government shutdown and is authorized to act on the feds behalf in SC waters. Just saying before any pirates go a huntin…

Maybe if some people hadn’t gone out and “slammed” the snapper then got on the www and bragged about it three years ago we wouldn’t be in this mess.
7, I couldn’t agree more.

Yeah, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal? I wouldn’t go so far as to call a dog filthy but they’re definitely dirty. But, a dog’s got personality. Personality goes a long way.

You’re joking right?
The WWW had nothing to do with the closures.
- MSA
- Election of Obama
- Appointment of Lubchenco
The list continues to grow.
This thing is like a runaway train. Hopefully enough people will have awaken by the time 2012 gets here and we can end this nightmare.

That is right. The fishery was closed down because someone posted a picture on Charlestonfishing of a dead snapper.
What if they had not posted the picture? Then they would say “look all these people posting on a fishing site are not catching any fish! The fishery MUST be in TROUBLE!! SHUT IT DOWN!!!”
Set the trap boys, we going to pass through them again!!
No problem, I am just Striper fishing the Lake, river, occasional Shellcracker run.
I miss it really bad, sold the bote last July and thought I would have replaced it by now, guess I’ll just crowd in inshore with everybody else, luckly I fish weekday’s.
Culture change I would say,see yall at the meeting April 12, be there!

I don’t think people realize the impact of all of the closures. Years past guys would head out earlier in the year and test the trolling. If things did not pan out they went to their backup plan and bottom fished. Now it is a long ride to find no fish trolling and head back to the hill. Now noone is going until they are sure the bite on the troll is on. Lot less bait, tackle, ice, gas etc. Bought this past March vs years past. 7cs this has been in the works before anyone posted pics on the net.
Yes it has. I’m not against keeping the limit. Do it every chance I get. I just don’t see giving the opposition ammo and rubbing their nose in in when they have the upper hand, but I’m not an attention w hore.

This website builds interest in offshore fishing. It provides money to the local economy as more and more get involved. Bottom line is we vote and we need numbers and dollars to combat these guys. So if Phin’s pictures get people excited about fishing hopefully they will jump on the band wagon. We sure could use the support.
