I took some buddies out on Tuesday and landed this nice sized sharpnose. We went out in the afternoon in between showers. He took a live menhaden on a Carolina rig.
Nice! Put up a good fight?
Definitely a healthy looking fish.
Did you eat it?

We caught some smaller ones and kept two of those to eat. That guy put up a great fight. The water droplets on the camera lens are actually from when they bringing the shark alongside to net it. He was thrashing around so much it splashed the whole boat!!! We took some pics and let him back over the side.

Nice. They are a lot of fun. The last time I went out for them, my back was pretty sore the next day. I kept cranking the drag down and trying to horse them too much.
Congrats on a good day.

Good sized shark. Not a sharpnose though. Pecs are bigger on that fish

Nice shark.
Good catch! Looks like a sandbar shark. Second dorsal and anal fin line up and the first dorsal fin begins above the middle of the pectoral.

I have to agree with Fritz. I’m not a shark expert by any stretch of the imagination, but I’ve caught a lot of atlantic sharpnose, and this fish in your pic is much heavier bodied, and the pectoral fins are disproportionately large for a sharpnose. To a lesser extent, I’d expect to see much more color variation (light blotches) although that’s not exactly a smoking gun.
Call it a sandbar that’s much more of a man-card fish than a sharpnose anyhow, and you released it anyway which was the ethical/legal thing to do

Even that last pic is pretty big for a sharpnose! Nice catch, those are fun on light tackle. I have yet to catch a sharpnose quite that big.
