I’ve recently been looking into getting a skeet shooter just to start filling some free time(more so I can actually start hitting ducks come fall) but that’s besides the point. To be honest, I have no idea where to start, I don’t want to spend more than $500 on it and preferably less. I’ve seen all these options with “wobble”, electronic elevation control and all these. Do you think these are nice to have on one? Also as far as brand name goes, atlas seems to be extremely higher priced, are they the nicest? Anyways I guess I’m looking for any input at all on what to get, what to avoid, or really anything helpful at all. Thanks guys!
Try one of the inexpensive hand throwers; they do a pretty good job when you learn to use them.

Find a Skeet or Sporting Clays range near you and go there. You can spend your money on a new hobby, making some new friends, better situational set ups for game and you don’t have to worry about the upkeep on one of those things. Most of the cheap ones require constant tweaking and adjustment and can be a maintenance PITA. The spring loaded ones break as many targets as they throw, are dangerous and its hard to use a hand one by yourself.

Yeah, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal? I wouldn’t go so far as to call a dog filthy but they’re definitely dirty. But, a dog’s got personality. Personality goes a long way.

I had a spring loaded table top thrower and it was a blast! (Pun intended) It would break a clay every once in a while but it had more to do with the quality of clay, than the thrower.
Hey Reel…You are welcome to try mine before you buy one. Can’t remember the brand, but it mounted to a spare tire on the ground. It’ll throw 2 at a time, (I never get em both) but for the many times we’ve used it, it seems decent, Think we got it at sportsman’s warehouse for around 60-70 bucks. It isn’t fancy…just a spring loaded one, but hell, it works…
And my take on the birds is use White Flyer biodegradable clays…I shoot em over my pond and never seem to have a problem…(well except hitting them)
do all outdoors .com … will have pretty much anything you want at all prices
In my opinion the red plastic hand throwers are the most fun. I’ve used traps, and spring loaded hand throwers, which are fun too. The plastic hand throwers seem to throw the clay faster and there is way less consistency in where the clay is going to go. I find this much more challenging than a ground mounted trap. If you have a group of people, each person will throw differently, making it even more challenging.

Backwoods is a great place followed by partridge creek. Backwoods is further, but a bigger sporting clay course than partridge creek.
