Skunked again

I recently got back jnto fishing and was killing it fishing from shore. Most days in the double digits. So I bought a boat and have been out several times. The only things I’ve managed to hook is myself. What am I looking for when picking a spot? I normally go out with the intention for trout and reds. Normally on the Cooper as it’s close to home. At this point I’m tempted to get a guide just to show me some spots lol

I wouldn’t worry about it, it’s the slow time of the year. Unless you know exact areas that hold fish. I learned by going out primarily during low tide to find oyster rakes, drop offs, land contour, and any areas I thought that would hold fish at higher tides.

This time of the year you need to fish really, really slow. Once you thought you are slow enough slow down even more. For trout look for 3-8 ft of water, jig head that is really light ( it falls slower) and fish slow. Reds should be hanging out by oyster rakes, anywhere that holds baitfish, and anywhere that shallow so dolphins can’t get to them.

Just my 2 cents. Some may agree, or disagree. But good luck to you and scouting before fishing always helps.

Thanks

I’m no one to give fishing advice but, you picked probably the toughest time of the year to figure out fishing from a boat. Be patient. When spring arrives, the fish will be more open-mouthed and it will get better. Time on the water is the way to learn.

“Apathy is the Glove into Which Evil Slips It’s Hand”, but really, who cares?

It’s not the slow time of year. Probably slower than November. Fishing is great. Hire a guide.

…sold mine some time ago, have not missed it. Keep at it, you will figure it out. Maybe go back to the same EXACT tactics you used from shore. Same gear and baits, find the fish first, then expirement.
