Well put in at Short Stay to do some drift fishing for cats and cast for stripers. Drift fished every depth for cats and anchored by the locks. Casted everywhere for stripers because they were feeding hard, especially by the locks. NOTHING, NOTTA, SKUNKED!!! Anyone know whats goin on? I am thinking because the water was way up. Must have had them skattered.
Chewy, you need to delete the mention of trying to catch stripers. Itâs illegal to even try to catch them until Sept. 30.
OOPS wonât be trying for stripers for a while thanks for the info.
Does anyone know what depth cats are in right now? I want to go fishing havenât been in several years donât know where they are This time of year
They are usually running shallow at night, but the security guard mentioned he had not seen anything come up in months.
Night time between sunset and midnight has always worked best for me in the heat of summer. 20â and shallower. I like to start my drift shallow and drift into the deeper water on a slow-sloping decline. Drifting into the shallower water can turn ugly if you arenât paying attention and get stuck on a stump or the bottom.
Rolling underwater âhillsâ like over between Bonneau and Overton are a good location too, but there is a lot of sunken timber and stuff to lose rigs on. If you fish there, make up LOTS of rigs the night before you go, because you will lose some.
I got stopped by DNR a couple years ago for a safety check. They were cruising around in a really nice aluminum boat with a 200 on the back. The thing looked brand new. I asked them why they were running that particular boat, and they said they had just seized it from someone who was chasing and casting to a school of stripers out of season on Lake Marion. I never knew there was a closed season before they told me that.
