Not much to say. One cuda in 130ft. Trolled out to 200ft. Had many knock downs but couldn’t hook squat! How do you go through 3 bags of bait and not catch but 1 cuda?? Didn’t have my lucky fishing shirt or something. Oh well, we’ll get em next time. Maybe?

I basically was indoctrinated in to offshore fishing by my uncle who was one of the pioneers who started back in the fifties - one thing he taught me was to learn to properly rig bead-chain rigs which generally improve your hook-up ration a great deal because they place the hook in the rear one-third of the bait. There are those who never fished them and will tell you all kind of reasons NOT to use them but for high-speed slashers like wahoo and king they do work very well. They are a pain in the ass to rig right some times especially with poor quality, mushy bait but this time of year they will at least let you satisfy your curiosity as to what’s stealing your bait. Nothing wrong with bead chain rigs.Had a old friend (Al-Cole)who fished with nothing but bead chains and caught fish period…I don’t use um cause I just like to make my own stuff.
Hard to say why you had so many knockdowns and only caught one fish so I won’t guess;yes they will swim just fine with another hook,but I think you already know that:smiley:
Thanks for all the info. Never too old to learn. We’ve never used trailing hooks before. We’ve fished many years with no problems quite this extreme. After Saturday we’ll try trolling backwards if it’ll help haha it was like we were fishing in a turtle pond. Thanks again for your info.
