Skunked

I got a saltwater fly rod a few weeks back and its still all I can think about all day long. The first trip out in my kayak I hooked into a small trout and I haven’t encountered a fish since then.

I’ve tried a few different approaches- fishing creek mouths, deep creeks, oyster bars, incoming tide, outgoing tide, different locations, etc. I’ve used clousers, gurglers, and an everglades special… I cannot seem to find/interest a daggum redfish.

What different approaches should I take? Am I crazy (yes, duh)? I know it takes a lot of patience with the fly rod, but man I didn’t know I’d be skunked over and over again.

The hardest part is finding the redfish. They are still mostly schooled up. Its easiest to find them at low tide when you can see them. Try paddling up feeder creeks. Dark purple and black crab patterns work great for me.
