in case you have not seen it already…pretty amazing footage.
Wow, what are the chances of that happening! Thank God they all made it!

Woo Hoo - blind dumb luck, been on plenty of formation jumps, the pilot in the trail plane really screwed up, his primary job is to stay away from the lead plane

Wow. Hadn’t seen that. What’s amazing to me is that the pilot escaped. Do those guys normally wear parachutes?
Oh my ■■■■ that’s amazing!
Skinneej - if the door comes open FAA says the pilot has to wear a rig, some take it serious and properly adjust the harness, some just put it on thinking that they won’t need it
this guy had it on and properly adjusted - good decision

With around 2300 jumps under my belt, I’ve never encountered such a mess. That doesn’t mean we never had a mishap or 2, this was just poor execution.Thank God all made it out safely…

Not nearly as uncomfortable as jumping out the door without one:smiley: The newer chutes really aren’t very bulky at all.

“With around 2300 jumps…” So that is specifically 273 jumps or is it 6,487 jumps or 2.9 zipflap jumps?
The one thing that YOU do know specifically is who is at fault.
Gonna take the high road here Ifly and ignore that comment, although my logbooks say 2387 jumps exactly…

some pilots wear old (back type) junk rigs that are uncomfortable, they make rigs specifically for pilots, generally seat packs, they’re comfortable, a skydiver is required to have 2 chutes if making an intentional jump, a pilot only has to wear a single chute since they don’t intend to jump

Ironically, so do I I avoid ladders, roofs, tree stands, and anything else that puts my azz higher than my head belongs, but for some reason I’ve always loved flying little planes and jumping out of them. Mainly because it scares the crap out of me I think. Hard to explain. I don’t have a large number of jumps, only 120 or so, but anytime I get to feeling really bored and need a good kick start, jumping out of an airplane fixes me right up:smiley:

interesting, didn’t expect to find other jumpers on this forum, I’ve got 3867 jumps, been an AFF and tandem instructor for 22 years
interesting that you have a fear of heights, I’ve got the same problem! if I’m next to the closed door it’s uncomfortable, once we’re about 1000 feet high it goes away, don’t know why
still nervous sitting next to an open door regardless of the height, during warm weather we shut the door for takeoff but open it once we’re 1500’ high and leave it open until about 6000’
