I may be wrong, I’ve been wrong before. lol. This is my logic: A West wind is the best because it cant build a swell(here in SC). Right now its a WSW wind, which is blowing against the swell that was built from the NE wind from the front side of the storm(thats what made it so sloppy). Hence, why I say it should be slick. Time will tell… I say tomorrow will be the best day we have seen for the past month. Then again, I drink a little… haha
Looks to me like Sunday is the day to go. Swellwatch, Sailflow ,and NOAA all show a good forecast…

quote:It would be more due to the fact that you only have 5knt winds. Coming out of the West might give you a little lee right up against the beach (maybe a couple of miles), but you wouldn't want to be out there in a strong West wind as you would get beaten on the way home. Most people don't worry about the swell as much as they do the Wind Wave height which can build up over a very short distance and very quickly.

sailflow, reefcast and noaa are all saying its going to die down to 5kts overnight and stay like that until late afternoon tomorrow.
Going to wakeup at 3.30am and check and and make the call.

hate to ruin it for Sunday, but I am planning to fish the big tide inshore Saturday night so there will probably be some kind of freak wind that shows up out of nowhwere. I am at the point where I may need to purchase a sailboat just to keep the wind from blowing.
we have had rough conditions for 2 weeks and with that storm just passing today…its gonna be rough and disorganized out deep until 1 or 2 when the calm wind has given the ocean enough time to settle down. Maybe if you on a big boat it will be fine but tomorrow is a beat you up day in the morning on a center console
It was a lake. Perfect wx and the fish were there in force
