took a walk tonight, saw more people on the water than I have in a while, everyone was up in the grass. I hit a 7’ spot and there wasn’t quite enough water. Highlight was a nice run from a big boy on a copperhead that broke off in the grass. He was standing on his head and I put it right there, he nailed it and burned into the grass. Pop. At least it got the blood flowing. I saw one more chugging around, but he was in really skinny water and I wasn’t sure if he was eating or trying to get unstuck. Not interested in the fly.
What a night though. A long long slow walk in the spartina gives you time to think big thoughts and put your mind back into order. Now I remember why I do this.
That’s better than us. We saw one tailing as soon as we got out the boat, but that was about all the action on the flats for us last night. Wind was a little more than anticipated.
We only saw one last night, and didn’t get a shot at him.

Trust me, while your pinned down taking enemy fire and you call in for air support and you hear a jets afterburner crackin the air overhead would be the most liberating sound you could ever ask for. I haven’t experienced that first hand in actual combat, but I have trained in a similar scenario where it still makes the hair stand up on your body.
