Slim Pickins

Haven’t been able to get out in a while due to home projects, weather and poor timing. Finally ventured out yesterday to upper Wando even though the tides weren’t exactly where I would have liked them(high tide at 10a.m.). My buddy and I hit the water around 8 a.m. and focused on grass points with some current break, areas we know have oysters/structure. Water temp 56 degrees. We were picking away here and there at some dink trout. The fish were glued to the bottom. Low tide finally came and as the tide changed, so did the bite. Ended the day with 9 reds and close to 40 trout between the two of us. Largest red was 27.5" and largest trout was 17.5". All fish caught on artificials, Zman TRD and TRD minnowz on Ned Rigz and Trout Eyes. First redfish I’ve ever caught with zero spots on it was also the biggest, he hit as soon as the lure landed in the water, which was about 2’ deep.

WIth a thread title like that I was expecting either a sad “tail” about not catching any fish or a fishing trip with a movie star! It was neither!

Haha, that’s a fair expectation. We just spoil ourselves with 25-30 reds and 60+ trout combined. So yes, it was still a “good day”

If I had a report like that it would be titled “EPIC DAY!!!”

Nice “naked” red! Ralph and I were out at the same time, same area yesterday. We had a short window and were on the trailer at 11:45am. Slowish day for us also. Had about 15 trout and 8 reds. No fish to brag about, although I caught a tagged red that might be my own tag.

Way to find em! I don’t think the water has left the 50’s all year has it?

Opt, how cool would that be to re-catch your own tagged fish!?

Stump, its pretty cool. Done it a few times. The best one by far was when Ralph caught one of my tagged fish when we were fishing in one of the Southern Redfish Cup tourneys. It was a line painter and when we got to weigh in it turned out to win big fish $1,000 award. Proves that there is a cash value to catch and release

Catching your own reds that you previously tagged really is pretty cool. I’ve caught several that I’ve tagged. The best so far, my wife caught a fish I tagged almost a year later. We have that report hanging up at the house.

And no, I have not seen the water temps leave the 50s, I think lowest I’ve seen is 52 so far.
