What is this? Looks like there may be a plug or something that is supposed to be there. Motor is a 1979 Johnson seahorse 25hp. Model number 25RL79R.
Vent hole for letting air escape while filling foot gear oil. If you are unfamiliar with mechanics of outboard motors , I would have foot

That’s what I thought but I am not so sure. I think they are weep holes that lets unburnt fuel out. I only learned that after I googled tiny holes in foot. The motor has been sitting for years without running and just came back to life this past Sunday. There is strong smell of fuel from the sludge that is coming out of those holes. Any thoughts on why SOO much sludge is coming out?
Built up oil/gas in the combustion chamber. Decarb the engine now that you have it running, and then replace the plugs. You can google the proper decarb technique. Or just take it to Chris.

Should it smell like gas? Some research I found says it could be unburnt fuel.
