Small mud motors?

Anyone have any experience with these? I’m looking at getting a kit from mud-skipper and using a 3hp Predator engine on it. I’m going to use it on a 10’ jon in the creeks and shallows behind my house. High tide is no problem but at low tide it gets a little sketchy. Weight is a concern which is why I’m looking to stay small.

I would use a small outboard but there is a fair amount of debris in the creeks I’ll be traveling. I won’t actually be in any full on mud motor situations but I feel that it would be very hard on an outboard. I do not want to go with a trolling motor due to having to mess with batteries.

I’m not looking to go fast, I just don’t want to paddle. It’s only going to be me(185lbs) and fishing rod and personal sized cooler.

I’ve looked at getting one online and they seem cool and VERY cheap compared to an outboard. The biggest problem I see is the whole thing rusty to shreds from the saltwater after one summer.

Some of them that I have seen use aluminum tube and a stainless shaft. The bracket itself is still steel. From what I have seen, all of them use a stainless shaft.

I thought about getting a kit for an extra gx160 Honda I have sitting around and use on my 12ft jon boat in the shallow rivers up here in the upstate to duck hunt. Some seem to have better mounts than the others.
