Smoky Oak...--Review

So Donnie and I had heard a lot of good things about the new bbq place on camp road…so decided to check it out this afternoon. It was all we had heard and more! Service was great and food was wonderful. Donnie had the beef brisket with homemade mac and cheese…the kind granma made, baked beans and corn bread. i had pulled pork with hash and rice and coleslaw and cornbread. We both also had a salad.Meat had great flavor and was so tender you could cut it with a fork…5 sauces on the side…but really didnt need any…the flavor was just that good. Huge amount of food, in fact brought food home and thats saying a lot since donnie has a pretty darn good appetite! iced tea and two beer…cost…31 dollars and some change. Owner stopped by to say hello and told us they also have lunch and nightly specials. We will definately keep this on our "yes"list…glad to see james island getting some more good food places! oh yeah…besides daily specials also has a punch card…buy 4 sandwichs get the fifth free…

Good to know. I see a crowd there every time I go by. I’ll have to stop in soon.

Ok…it’s on my list…let’s go!. I love trying out new places! I wonder how it ranks up to JB’s SmokeShack on John’s Island?

Repeat good experience!!well a few last minute phone calls and 15 of us took the center aisle over tonight as a group trip to Smoky Oak…and I think we all agreed that it was great food and great service…a definate good place to eat if you havent tried it!

It will definitely be a place I’d return to. Who would have thunk its location would have brought in a packed house last night. I was like a child coming out of my chair with every dish they brought out of the kitchen…looking to see what I should order. The pulled pork was awesome…no fat what so ever. I liked their sauces, but would have liked a spicier one. I got Mac and Cheese due to a recommendation…just like my grandmother’s. Next time I’ll get the collards for sure. The Onion Ring appetizer basket was overflowing with wonderful rings. They weren’t the heavy doughy kind. It had a light batter fried really crispy. The order was big enough to pass around the table…they definitely didn’t skimp the rings!!!

SWEETWATER BLUE ON DRAFT…I was a happy camper. Heck I’ll return for the beer and onion rings.

great, you found it on tap!

should have seen the grin when they said they had it:smiley:

I was wondering about that place. I’ll definitely give it a shot soon. I love me some good Q!

Nothing but a “SMART-ELLIC”!

It is awesome. They have some nice flat screen TVs too, Trivia night is awsome too! Thursday nights

Try a burger, take half home. I took my 73 yo mother there the night of the snow, the place was packed and she had a great time! The collards are great.
