snake chaps

Anyone in Charleston or N Charleston have a pair I can borrow for Monday and Tuesday? Some friends want me to help them do some work in Orangeburg and they have seen a couple of rattling boys lately. I don’t want to get bit and my children couldn’t handle it either.

What size boot do you wear?

Hey salty, I wear a size 9 boot but because my feet and ankle’s swell so much I can’t get them in any boots. Thanks for asking though. I’ve never spent enough time stomping around the woods to make me buy anything to protect my legs. Wouldn’t worry about going up there but she has a couple of buildings that sit about 8 inches off the ground with junk piled around and overgrown weeds.

I threw mine away as they were a pain and made too much noise as I swished thru the woods.
Carry a stick and make plenty of noise before touching anything

twice, I almost stepped on one when retreiving a deer. My buddy holding this one. He had a squirrel in his belly

Canebreak rattlesnake . Their #1 food is squirrel , followed closely by rats & smaller rabbits. They are not aggressive and seldom rattle.

They love a corn pile.

Did not rattle and was near corn pile

Canebreaks are a subspecies of the timber rattlesnake . They both have black tails. Not only do they seldom rattle , but they almost never bite anything they cant eat. They will retreat when threatened. Its very different with an eastern diamond back. I’ve seen canebreaks take up positions at the base of a tree that squirrels use and just wait. They have nothing but time to wait for a meal to come down the tree. They hang near corn piles for the same reasons.

I worry much more about cotton mouths

Didn’t see any snakes but scared up a few bunny rabbits.
