With the seas a little sloppy this AM (for a 20’ boat), decided to bottom fish 85’ to 110’. Went to a small ledge in 85’ based on a certain friends advise (thanks P.G.).
Caught nice 15"+ sea bass, b-liners, red porgy, trigger, and grunts. Decided we had enough of those bottom dwellers and proceeded to 110’ and found some new bottom #'s that produced! Caught 3 grouper (2 scamp and 1 gag) and stopped counting the not so endangered ARS after we pulled the 8th one from this spot. All but 1 ARS were 20" or over too.
Had one scamp that was 18" all stretched out (see photo) and was returned to feed another day.
All in all, a fun day on the water. Return ride home was nice at 30+ MPH.

i spent alot of bottom fishing time getting banged around on a very similar boat to what you guys were fishing…congrats on the nice fish, every day u fish 30 miles out in that boat, u are earning every bit of it
You are right about that. My boat handles things pretty well, but this was my friends first time ever offshore and he did get sick.
He chummed the water twice after taking 2 rounds of dramamine. Dave was a real trooper though. He stayed with it and caught his first grouper and ARS. His daymaker was pulling up 2 keeper ARS on a double drop chicken rig.
Capt n Kids, you were invited! Wish you could have made it, bud! We had a great time. Best thing was finding this little piece of bottom that yielded all those snapper. Wonder if we will ever be able to keep them again?
