Going into this red snapper season, we agreed to fish every day of the season we could? 7/18 was one day we could have thought twice, but the poledancer was ready to fish and so were we. Put her in the wind around noon time into the 15-25 mph wind coming out of the NE with 4-7 foot seas. Got some live bait fast and headed to the snapper hole. First drop… BANG! 20 pounder hit the deck. After that it was all sharks for a few hours. The current changed and the bite shout off completely. Decided to reel up due to a few mates getting sick, and the bite being as slow as it could be. So while reeling up my line and not paying attention a nice cobia slams my rod. That sure woke me up! Put him in the box quick and headed home. Ended 7/18 - Big red, cobia, nice vermillions, BSB, and 1,457,897 sharks.
Crankin’ round two this weekend on today 7/19. Left the dock at 6:30am with several boats around us. Not the best conditions with a NE wind an outgoing tide and the waves tight as possible through the jetties. Jigged up around 100 baits in 30 minutes and headed to the Snappa hole. Sure enough first drop smash! Line was coming out hard until he broke us off in the rocks? We knew for sure that was a monster. Second drop… smash! Not the biggest but a good 15 pounder hit the box. After that it was a shark frenzy for hours without one red being caught. Then it was like a light switch. A good 20+ pounder hit the box. Four sharks later another 20+ hit the box. Few sharks and sea bass later another 15-18 pounder hit the box. Limit was over. Decided to run to house after that. While we were doing that we passed over some serious live bottom in around 75 feet of water and caught a few little reds and big vermillion. Couldn’t keep anymore so we left them hungry for tomorrow. Finished 7/19 with a four man limit of nice reds, bunch of vermill
