So Cal and So Car fly-fishing

I spent two weekends ago fishing in Southern California and last weekend here locally. Here’s the report.

So Car: I spent the afternoon with the falling tide in my kayak casting into the grass edges on the wando with no luck. Can’t catch a fish without a hook in the water though. Regardless it was fun.

So Cal: I went to visit my brother in Southern California two weekends ago and we scheduled a fishing day to Catalina Island. We had a great trip fly-fishing the entire time. We were just off the island in about 120 feet fishing a live bait chum line. My brother and I both caught 2 barracuda, 2 bonita, and about 20 calico bass. It was a great trip, here are some fun pictures from the trip.

Looks like a fun trip. That island brings back some old memories! My old stomping grounds! Used to love catchin them calico’s. Used to dive and get big ol dinner plate sized abalone there.

The trusty old Clouser in various colors. We used sinktip lines that went straight to a 20 lb. fluro leader to a loop-tied clouser.

Yeah, the guide was telling us that these cudas are a different variety from the ones my brother and I are used to. I’ve got a kayak and would love to join one of your adventures but I will be traveling out of town on the 23rd. Hopefully next time!
