It’s like that on every piece of live bottom out there. Released half a dozen yesterday in 100 feet. But some jerk off with a slide rule and a calculator that goes to really nice resorts for conferences is going to tell us that they are endangered. The council sucks.

I think one of the major problems is that they try to regulate states with NOTHING in common. Florida should be removed from the grouping. They can catch red snapper in Biscayne Bay and in sight of land. We have to travel about 25 miles. Thus the overfishing is much more likely to occur in Florida and NOT in GA, SC or NC. This is what we should be working for: Get rid of Florida!! JMHO

Get rid of the council! Let each state dictate what the rules are, decided by the department of natural resources instead of a group of nitwits that make money and get to travel to really fancy resorts.

Florida alone is responsible for the "Dead discard" numbers that push us over the annual allocation...
Also, what is super ridiculous is that it’s been scientifically proven that red snapper do not move up and down the coast. If I recall, it was something like 80% of tag recaptures happened within 0.25 miles of their original capture.

That will never happen though. Once the Feds get control of anything they aren’t likely to let it go.

That and the states have no authority outside of state jurisdiction. Maybe SC could set up an offshore toll booth for ships passing by, sort of like Somalia.
I fish the eastern side of the GOM, out of the Tampa Bay area. They generously gave us a 9 day season this year and catching a limit is no problem. These are from live bottom, not oil rigs. About 3 weeks ago. They are generally a dang nuisance when grouper fishing.
Got a few grouper too, all the law allows anyway:smiley:
There ain’t no shortage of fish. Seems to be a big shortage of common sense though.
One of my crew caught one in 40’ 7 miles off Winyah today on a Sabiki rig. No size but, it was a genuine.

Yeah, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal? I wouldn’t go so far as to call a dog filthy but they’re definitely dirty. But, a dog’s got personality. Personality goes a long way.

This is the truth, just look at the consent decree on the NC outer banks, dealing with the friggin piping plovers. Environmentalism is the newest, fastest growing, most powerful religion in the world, and it's not going away.
