So... When does spring bite officially start?

Is it just us or is it slow as all get out now? Trolling with artificials, cut mullet on the bottom under docks, MM under corks in the flats, as close as we can get. Nothing working. We stay in the creeks.

We didn’t get out much this time last year… How does this year compare?

Last question - is this related to the hard winter?

Hard to fish with all the skunks in the boat!

Lol, I put a 19" trout in the cooler last week, I was pickled tink.

This week (today), tried Bushy Park. Finger mullet are there, but tiny. They passed right through my cast net. I dumped it on their heads several times, and only netted 1, and even he was small enough to fit through the mesh. Menhaden are there though. The only hit I got was when something sliced the tail off the curly-tail grub I had. The teethmarks looked a lot like bluefish teeth, but usually bluefish don’t come that far up the river.

Last year sucked for me. That 19" trout I caught last week was bigger than any two trout combined I caught last year lol.

I am not sure we can call this one on the hard winter. Last season was difficult as well.

… The Cross of Christ is the anvil upon which the hammer of evil wore itself out.

I haven’t had much luck either this year. In previous years, May was great for redfish. THis year?not so much! Why??? don’t know.

It has definitely started! Been tearing them up around feeder creeks with live finger mullet and quartered crabs. Sheepshead are in heavy as well.

Fishing has been very good. Mostly mm under corks but several on the bottom with cut mullet each trip.

You might want try fishing lighter rigs. I find I catch more inshore with leader tied directly to main line with a large split shot for the bottom. 20lb braid with 20 lb flor.

Sliding popping cork with the brass ball will cast better than the plastic beaded ones. Tie leader with length based on how deep your bottom is. I average 18 inches. Pop the cork regularly as the minnow will flutter on the drop. I use owner mutu1/0 circle hooks. Most people use too big a hook.

Fish an area and if not catching in twenty minutes move. I will stay though if it is an area where I catch at a certain tide. I have different places that I have scouted at different tides and often when the day is done just look for new spots where I note for another day.

When to fish you might ask. Early in the morning or late in the afternoon works for me. A lot of traffic makes it tough sometimes so on the weekend I am on the water at sun light no matter what the tide is. I see the same guys at the ramps all the time.

Public service announcement time.

Do not load your boat, wait for folks, and check you **** blocking the ramp. Anytime. Move in and move out quickly. If your wife or girl cannot load the boat or back the trailer now is not the time to teach her. If your friend has never handled your rig now is not the time to teach him. If you see someone having a hard time then give them a hand. Karma goes a long way.

I fish mainly in the harbor area and sometimes in the Folly or Kiawah. The bite on both redfish and flounder has been consistent on a 1/8 or 1/4 oz jig head with a mudminnow or 3 inch new penny gulp shrimp. Trout have been hit or miss but we have done well when the water clears up a bit.

I went out from Bushy park on friday morning, fished around yellow house and hooked a 17 in sea trout,(and released) but in the process i had three separate hits that cut my artificial in half (electric chicken) just behind the hook, what fish was doing that:question: that was the first time i had that happen and to have three of them within a 30 min period in the same area it had to be something

That is one the most best advice given right there. Thanks to Wando Grill.

Double D.

Wando Grill - thanks for the advice. Getting out early sounds like a good idea. We’ve been paying a lot of attention to tides lately, maybe too much. Caught some nice trout at daybreak a few years back but been sleeping in too much recently.

So if I idle my engine @ the ramp to get all the gas out of the carburetor, I’m blocking the ramp for others? (**(), Wando, why so hard on the people trying to learn how to put their boat in sideways.

Why would you empty carbs in salt water? So as not to be hard on people trying to learn… Get your boat on the trailer and out of the water as quick as you can so you aren’t a butthole to others. When you get home hook up a set of muffs and flush your engine of salt water WHILE you drain your carbs if you so desire to do so.

I just can’t imagine a person actually draining carbs in salt water only to leave all the salt thoroughly dispersed through out your engine to sit there and corrode everything. So… advice to someone that says they want to learn… Don’t drain your carbs in salt water at the landing, get your boat on the trailer and out of the way of others and then handle needed maintenance at home with some fresh water.

My topic got stolen!

Fished the incoming this pm. Got to it late but five trout…no reds today. Minnows under rattle cork up against the grass. Did have a couple of reds explode but missed the bait.

Small shrimp showing up.
