So you like catching sharks and don't own a boat?

Land based shark fishing is simply the most fun you can have without owning a boat in the fishing world. Catching big reds on small reels is also very fun, and we like to do this as well, but catching an angry blacktip on spinning gear and hearing that reel scream all the way down to knot is amazing. Once the shark is on the fight generally lasts 15-45 minutes depending on your reel, line, and how confident you are in putting as much pressure as possible on the fish, and it all takes place from the beach.

To begin land based shark fishing, LBSF, you really don?t need a whole lot. At the very basics, a 6000 to 8000 sized spinning reel loaded with 30-65lb braid paired with a 9-12? surf rod will do the trick. Even a Walmart rod can handle the task. This and your camera is really all you need which many of you already have.

When you are ready to move to targeting to medium sharks, your local pawn shop usually has a senator 9/0 or 6/0 with your name on it that can handle most everything you will see. A used sit on top from the same pawn shop or the good ole craigslist and you are ready to have the most fun you can without owning a boat (well besides a kayak now?) Or you can make friends with us since we have two kayaks and just want others who will share the same passion we do.

So we, Requiem Fishing, are Charleston locals looking to add to our growing group of sharkers. No experience necessary, a few months ago we had none either, and now one of our teammates has an ISLFA record, and a few accolades from the two tournaments we have traveled to FL for. We are learning still ourselves, but have surrounded ourselves with others who are wiser than we. At Big Hammer Challenge we caught 4 lemon sharks over 8 feet and 7 Goliath Grouper up to 300lbs, all from the beach.
